The Budget, bike tax ???

I dunno what was said today, Ive given up with the politics in this country which is a shame. I just get on with my wee life now and leave all the bickering to them.
 
Your in another country, does it affect you ??? Thought you had your own Parliment and stuff now, I'm going to bed, I ain't got a clue !
 
Motorcycle excise duty (TAX DISC) increase!!!!

I have just had a look thru the the government website and found that our prudent b'stard chancellor has increase the cost of the tax disc (unless you have a bike up to 151cc and that stays at £15) If you have a 401 cc to 600cc it will cost you £46 and over 600cc he has increased it to £62!!! What is the point! I think he has been out and about in his gas guzzling Rover and seen all these yobs on very loud red Italian motorcycles tearing about using up our fossil fuels and thought "I'll make 'em pay for their devil-may-care attitude!!!

Why bother with a £2 increase?, mines due to be taxed this month always kept it taxed fro 12 months but i think I'll just do 6 months and SORN it for the remainder of the year when it doesn't get used.

I don't think you can tax bikes for six months anymore! It was always the most expensive way of taxing and most would tax it for a year. I always taxed it for a year and SORN'd it when the weather turns nasty and they put salt on the roads. If you taxed it in march:rain: :rain: :rain: :rain: :rain: :rain: :rain: for six months it would run out when there was still some decent weather left!
 
yes it was a couple of budgets ago that bike tax was made "cheaper" overall but you had to buy tax for a whole year, thus in one stroke robbing you of the option to tax for six months only easily AND getting more money out of you. The only option now is tax for the year and chip it in and get a refund......best leave it all year then. Which is exactly what they want you to do.

Personnaly I leave it taxed and insured all year round anyway, enjoying a quick blast whenever I can even in the grottier months.
 
I'm lucky I have 2 bikes, the 999 only gets used in summer :D The multistrada I keep taxed all year. You can tax for 6 months, its just gone up to 34.10, they were quick off the mark, thought I might get it at old price if I did it this morning online :)

are people suggesting that gordon brown our future prime minister (blessed be to god ) is ripping of bikers just because he can (may you rot in the brimstone of hell for thinking such a thing) as if any british politician would stoop to such low measures.remember this is the man who has left the tax on fuel at 85% for several years running now (thow art wise and brilliant may the non believers die the death of a thousand cutbacks) just to show us how greatfull we should be.(and may the glorious leader tony blair be cleared of all these dirty money allegations)mea culpa mea culpa mea maxima culpa:comp2:

Some of you may be old enough to remember when you could tax you bike for 4 months at a time. That was much better because you could tax it from March through to April and lay it up from the beginning of November through to the end of February. But now most people just tax their bike for a year and keep it keep it taxed while they're note using it over the winter. Not me, I'm too tight-fisted. I SORN the bike when I take it off the road and claim the tax back. £25 is better in my pocket than theirs. :)

So let me get this right, my wifes Yaris was I think £65 and might now be £45.
My 4x4 has gone up from £165 to £210 and my bike was £60 and has gone up to £62.
Robbing Bisterds.
a few years ago Labour promised to abolish road tax on bikes completely to try and encourage people to buy them and reduce congestion !
Strange that the bike increase bit never made the news.
We should revolt - If all the bikers in the country claimed SORN in october, the paperwork alone would cost a fortune to process, might give Gordon something to think about.

I reckon the government,s secret agenda is to get bikes off the road altogether - by stealth. They make them relatively expensive to tax as disincentive to taking up bikes. They make getting a licence difficult and expensive - another disincentive - and they are currently talking about new licence laws which include doing away with direct entry and raising the age at which you can ride anything with more than 33bhp up to 24. They will then soon be able to claim that they have reduced road deaths due to motorcycles to nil because there are no motorcyclists left on the road. And it won't be too long either the way they are going. What's the average age of a motorcyclist these days? 40? :mad:

if we all sorn it to make them choke under the paperwork itll just mean big gus broon will have to employ more civil servants which will mean more money on our tax to pay for them then theyll all need to go on stress handling courses which will mean more money on the tax disc ,then theres the phone answering course which means more money etc then theres the massuess theyll have to bring in to massage all those sore necks from people answering phones which is more money on the tax disc then we need the outreach workers for all those of on long term sick who couldnt be helped no matter how many massages they got so even more money on the tax disc then therell be the great big sexual harrasement payout well have to pay for cause some boss told some girl her shoes were nice so more money etc

Aye, the good old civil service gravy train will just create more jobs.

Have you ever wondered what incentive there is for the government employment agencies to get people back to work?? if they were successful and got 100% employment they'ed be out of a job!! Performance related pay anyone :)

SSSHHHHH They may notice that we do not actually need a bke, let alone two, they may get wise to us going out and burning precious fuel just for the hell of it ;)

You cannot tax a bike under 600cc for 6 months, anything ver you can, I knew the 600 monster was a shrewd move.....

what could they do if they acheived that 100% target....a few guesses
1.the fat ones could be push bike stands
2.work in vehicle registration offices (people in the trade will know what i mean)
3.could be paid to stand at the end of ques to make them longer
4.could be employed as short planks
5.heart attack safety valves.....youve won the lottery get really excited and think your going to have a heart attack a quick chat with one of those buggers and youd soon be back to earth :comp2:
