I'd like to say a big thank you to Derek, who took the time today to come down and show us how measure valve clearances, change shims and change/tension the belts.

Actually seeing it being done in the flesh (not that Derek was doing it in the buff or anything  :p ) was brilliant.

Thanks again mate...drinks are on me at Pibbow's :D

Sorry i didn't make it.sore heid, and after gettin soaked all week, didn't fancy another one as it was rainin doon here.
But now u know mate you can show me :p :D

I’d be glad to mate…and at only £40 an hour it’ll be a bloody bargain ;)

Sorry you couldn’t make it today though. Mum had made a mountain of food for you as well…no idea where she got the idea that you’d eat it all from :dunno: Anyway, Dad’s happy…he’ll have to eat it now...she never makes anything for him anymore :D

Glad you got something out of it Niall. Thanks to your mum for the ham and mustard pieces too :)
Pity Tam was feared he might get wet :p
Never mind that meant all the more food for you me and Geoff.:D

Derek,
Many thanks for taking the time to explain in plain english how to measure the valve clearances - openers and closers. How to remove the belts. How to remove the shims and make measurments. And then finally how to replace and adjust the belts. Most informative.

Also, many thanks to Neill for his donor engine and his mum for the excellent sandwiches.

It only started raining when I got back to Glasgow so mostly a dry day and a good run up and back.

Geoff
