meant to say is it normal for the fuel warning light to come on at around the 52 mile mark on a 749s? was a bit shocked, i have been a bit "heavy" with the throttle since i got her but seems like oops!

Not sure, not an expert. But I can give you figures for my 749 (bp not an S or R).

normal to heavy riding will get me 80-90 miles on a full tank of normal petrol before the petrol warning light comes on.

normal to heavy riding will get me 100-110 miles on a full tank of super/premium/optimax petrol before the petrol warning light comes on.

Mind you, when I was having problems with my bike (stalling at junctions/roundabouts) last year and it turned out it was only running/compressing on one cylinder the fuel consumption went down to about 60 miles per tank. Felt really silly not noticing the drop in power too until it was sorted.

Not at all in the slightest suggesting anything wrong with your 749s, just letting you know what I get out of my 749bp over the last 4 years.

is doin the stalling thing but pulls like a train so doubt its the comp thing, will find out when i finally get her up to dg, if this fickin weather ever clears:mad:

I know it sounds silly, but the only noticable difference to me was stalling coming to a stop. It pulled fine to me. I didnt notice any drop in power, it was over a long period of time, until it was fixed. Hence why i felt stupid not noticing it.

I get around 100 /110 to a tank if im just plooreting around,...however if i give it the berries, then its around 80, B 4 the light comes on.

Most often i get 80is to the tank lol

get the feeling i am gomma be feeling stupid to:D

Not necessarily, last year mine was fine then it got sick without me noticing. You have only had yours for a short time so have nothing to compare to/

Although it did have a problem when I bought it, but the shop hadnt noticed, it stalled occassionally but that was "apparently" common of the 749 until I eventually fell off it when it stalled on a slow turn. Took back to the shop- turned out the valve timing was out.

Fixed and ran fine for 3 years. Then got unwell again. Back to normal now.

as i am new i aint heard about the diesel, am i to assume someone had a little "wrong pump" phone the AA incident

Please do me the honour and double checking that figure, just to make sure. If it is a low as that you will need to get it back in to us for a look see because that just isn't right. I would expect roughly the same as Robbie T and Doctor Love suggest.

Nothing to worry about I might add, it'll just need a wee tweak. Best give Tracy a call and she'll get you sorted out. :)

have been trying to martin, but the only time i can make it up is on a saturday, last week on the way up to you the wife came of her bike, the week before ice was everywhere and this weekend we have the fickin day after tomorrow storms!!

hey colz,

just an idea, maybe the sensor thingy is broken,
i take it you've checked how much is left in the tank when the light comes on..

Standard,..dont think i see any dif on the more exspensive stuff

I do notice a difference, I get about 20 miles extra per tank. It is more expensive but comes in handy when really up north and petrol stations are over 100 miles apart. Rab (Lambrettaboy) will back me up on this one- in fact it was him who told me about it.

Funny thing is Iv'e tried using it in my car but it doesnt make a difference. Only on the bike!

Robbie, I thought it was sup to give you more bang for ur buck, never thought it would give better range.

i have used it a few times last year, but thought it was for more/ higher tune eng than mine, did not see any dif in milage though,...however i must say i did not have the time to pay attention to something like milage lol

Love my duke :D

52mpg, something isnt quite right there. Mine's BP, 80ish pushing hard, over 100 if I dont

I got from Fort William to Edinburgh on one tank and that was thumping it with BnP on his 749 too. I measured it at 160 miles.

However, I had to get a passing neighbour to go and get a can of fuel for me, as I ran out going the mile and a half up the road to fill up the next day :D

You certainly are an economical rider Davie, 2 years out of one tank isn't to be sniffed at... :D

yep will back robbie on this one definitively get more on the bike
with the more expensively petrol, but only on the ducati

Ok boys,I will try this in the spring see what the outcome is.;)
David

Yeah defo give it a go. Rab & myself go on a lot of runs together in the spring/summer, and often do the same routes in similar conditions. We've noticed that, on the expensive petrol, we can get one town/village further before needing to refill.

One intersting thing though is that our milage on the bikes is slightly different by a few miles, even though we have travelled exactly the same distance!
