I miss being able to do "Your mother" insults. That is the true cost of getting old.

Although Berkeley Castle is shut on a Saturday, the café is open! Nice breakfast and a few coffees!

Nice to see that they give young people jobs when there will be so little employment opportunity in and around Berkeley. Only worry is that it is not very busy and I want it to open on a Saturday, as it is convenient for me. And it is all about ME!!!!

TIL about bees from a beekeeper.

1. Males bees only live to provide sperm to the queen. Then Queen bee keeps the sperm until she is ready to lay eggs. The males die horrifically after mating with the queen. If they do not participate in mating they starve to death in the winter having been kicked out of the hive. That's pretty much all the male bees do.

2. The Queen bee fertilizes eggs as she lays them based on the size of the hole - in smaller holes she lays unfertilized eggs for drones, the larger holes for fertilized eggs which produce males.

3. The Queen bee is the primary occupant in the hive during the winter. 16 day gestation for a Queen bee, 26 days for males, 21 days for females.

4. If a Queen bee dies or leaves a hive without a successor, a female bee will lay eggs but she can only create more females (I think), until a new Queen arrives.

Something like that.

Thanks, glad that's cleared up.
