Supermono

This months Motorcycle Sport and Leisure has a one page feature on the new Supermono. The bike is being built in Britain by Supermono expert Alistair Wager with Ducati's approval and using genuine Ducati parts. It has been updated with modern technology and uses a Testastretta head and barrel. The bad news is there will be a limited production run of around 10 bikes and it will cost £35,000. It will be a lot more exclusive than a Desmosedici though ;)

Wonder if this and the "Scarmbler" is a new avenue for the factory?

60hp in a bike weighing 150kg is going to have plenty of performance for real world use and perhaps attract frustrated potential buyers that don't want or need 180hp.

Ducati started with singles (well when they started building bikes anyway) and it would complete the circle in many ways.

Single in a Supermono or a Scrambler or a modern Desmo would make a lot of sense.

...
60hp?? I'm sure the Supermono article quoted 85bhp

I haven't got the article in front of me but this one is just under 600cc if I remember correctly. So 85bhp for 1/2 of an 1198 would be about right. :)

I found a link with a load of pictures and I found the specs. Looks like I was optimistic with the power :o but check the weight.
Weight - 134 kg
Power - 70 bhp / 9800 rpm
Single head from a 999R used with a articulated balancer
595 cc displacement (104 x 70)
999R forged piston, titanium conrod, camshaft and 41/33 steel valves
Carbon fiber fairings plus carbon tank and rear subframe
6 speed gearbox taken from a 800SS
1098R monobloc Brembos up front
Ohlins shocks all round

and I forgot to mention - it's fully road legal!

This is a different firm to the one that was offering Supermono "kits" to fit to your SS I assume?

I thought the original Supermono was producing 70 odd HP but think it may have been heavier than this.

Must check when I get a hold of my "bible" tonight.

Impressive piece of work to produce that.

Have you checked the KTM 690 engine specs?. Especially on the 690 SMC and Enduro .. Astonishing power to weight for the money. It's almost certainly going to be the next bike I buy.

Original Supermono is quoting 122kg dry and 78 and 81hp so this is about on a par and as you say road legal.

Way too expensive and too high spec, BB1's were a tough sell for Bimota and they were no where near that. the one I'm waiting for is the KTM RC4, KTM understand how to build good spec bikes at reasonable prices and can get the performance, use that 690 engine in a light weigh sport package and it should sell.

Saying that i think the SF has brought it home just how much the UK market is different to rest of world, I couldn't see the point of it for here but now I've seen the marketing all geared at the Asian market where SBK doesn't sell and big capacity flat bar bikes do it made me realise what we want here might not be commercially viable and the likes of Ducati have to make product for those emerging markets not shrinking ones. They could in the old days but with the volumes they now need to produce it has to be more mainstream.
