Supermono Info

For me one of the most gorgeous bikes ever is the Supermono in both looks and sound.

I know I must be mad, but I feel the urge coming on.... I saw one on YouTube and got an odd ache in the Winstons that I interpreted as "Want One!"
I think it would be cool blatting through the Lakes don't you? This is my rationale (which is not at all rational), ignoring the very reasonable "it will need rebuilding every week and be a tempremental racing b*tch" arguement.

I am going to read up on them and I wondered if anyone can recommend any websites - books - articles on the bike.
Was it in road legal form or just for the track? Specs ect?

Ha. I was searching for a er 'forum correct word' and suddenly I thought of Winston Churchill. Ha. I don't know why it was not meant to be irreverent to Churchill I am sure, just fun. Glad you enjoyed the pun too.

I was race only, (alls the more shame) with no alternator, weighed fourfifthsof@@@@all and went like @@@@e of a shovel. And yes you're right, it was drop-dead gorgeous. If you want one and are over 5'6" you're in for a disapointment, they were also tiny!!!
But hey, you could stick a bicycle rear light on it, a cheap horn and register it for daytime use only!!!! :p

...what a track toy though hey. :)

I would love one, they are truly gorgeous!!

JHP has one in the showroom and a friend of ours has one.. absolutely stunning!!

...I mean, 122kgs, 75 odd horsepower to play with, it was always gonna be a brilliant bike with stats like that!!!! :)

I remember Callum Ramsay telling me that he was clocked at 153mph on a Supermono at the Northwest.
Said it was a nice bike but it vibrated a bit

Absolutely!
I saw them in the '90's in Assen supporting races for WSB (Foggy was campaigning) - what a sound.

Ah well... wishful thinking with only 65 made and one of the most collectable Ducati of any era - according to Wikipedia - eek they sound expensive!

Ah well, back to my 916 SP 1994 laying on the garage floor ready for reassembly then! :D

Hey, the SP is still a brilliant bike, a design icon and in '94 the SP model still had a 'rawness' about it that has gone in the new models, I mean mean cames, much narrower powerband etc. - loved 'em! :)

There is someone out there making "new" road going Supermono's using donor 999 lumps, looks exactly the same as the real thing bar the lights, costs around £35K though so for me you may as well buy the real deal

Your right about the SP it is lovely - I am lucky to have found one. I just have a bit of... er... reassembly to do.... another job, more tea....

This Supermono kit does not look too bad does it - ok not the real thing and I don't usually like such 'kits', but when there is a slim chance of a real one and the the real one is inpractical as is not road going.... well... I like it.

That said the original 'donor' bike is very pretty in itself.

Thanks Derek, what a fab idea, I guess it would go on a Monster too!
With a bit of ingenuity and bracket fabrication it could probably go on a lot of things. The kit still requires painting and doesn't include lights for the fairing, so all that lot could cost you quite a bit.
Airtech also do replacement fairing panels for SS/SSie/851/888/916/748, bevel 900/750SS, NCR replica and various other options including the Sports Classic. They could be a useful source of parts for people looking to build their own sports classic or Imola replica.

The fairing looks as though it would still use the oe square headlight but it would look a lot better with a couple of projector type lights, one dip one main and the centre could be filled with led's for the sidelight.

Derek, their kit to convert a single into a green frame 750SS is brilliant!

Obviously it is missing a cylinder but otherwise it really works IMO. At £500 it is a bargain if you have a single needing a tank/seat etc.

Ducati missed a trick with that one.:)

Yes, I had to look twice at that one. They must have downsized everything to fit the single.

.....what, a bit like this....

   I love it - :liar: :puke: :ban: :tantrum:

By the way J2112C, mine's a kit bike too - you tryin' to say my bikes rubbish??? ;) :p
