Mary I PM'd Borderduc with a route but going the reverse of your suggested route, that way the folk from east/north/ south could get most of the run on the best of the roads before they cut off at New galloway for home

Given that a few folks from south of the Border have said they fancy coming along from the Carlisle direction, let's aim to get to Newton Stewart for about 12.30-1, where we can meet up with them and then head down to the Isle of Whithorn to find a nice spot for lunch by the sea ?.

I suppose that gives us a couple of hours to get to NS from the starting point at Monckton, whichever way the Ayrshire branch decides to take us.

Weather forecast looking promising......

Just about ten miles beyond Newton Stewart, and there's a famous distillery beside it and a petrol station 200yds up the road.:D

If we go via New Galloway we should arrive around 1pm. This allows for a stop/coffee/regroup at New Galloway before heading for Newton Stewart.

I think the onward journey could be discussed at lunch - too much choice.:D

here is my recommended route....

Leave Monkton at 10.30? and follow the A77 towards Ayr.
Take the A713 through Patna, Dalmellington etc and cutting off onto the A712 for new Galloway.
Stop at Clatteringshaws Loch for a quick coffee before continueing on the
A712 towards Newton Stewart.
From newton Stewart take the A714 towards Wigtown, cutting off onto the
B7005 and head for the Bladnoch Inn for lunch.....
After lunch head for the A714/A746 towards Whithorn.
From Whithorn follow the A746/747 towards Glenluce. (Our friends from down south can then head back towards home from here if they wish).
From Glenluce take the A75 towards Stranraer cutting off at Aird onto the
A751 and then the A77 for the blast back to Ayr!

If the weather is good as predicted then it will be a fantastic run/day out!:)

Sounds like a plan.:D

Could we all arrive in time to leave at 10.30 as we are hoping to meet the southern DUNers at 12.30/1pm in Newton Stewart.

For those coming from the south take the third exit off the main A75 roundabout into Newton Stewart (Wigtown Road) but not the Wigtown exit. Do not go into the centre. We will meet you there (hopefully). Might be useful to exchange mobile numbers just in case. If you are coming up please PM me for my number.

Just where exactly in Newton Stewart Mary?
I seem to recall theres a petrol station just up the road from that roundabout,
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=l&h...4.951696,-4.480877&spn=0.021638,0.048151&z=14
theres also a big car park in the middle which runs beside the river leading to a supermarket.

Thanks for that Dave.:)

I'm not too familiar with car parks in Newton Stewart. Could you please post directions to the car park as it sounds like a good place to meet.:D

We'll just head for the Bladnoch for 1 ish, a bit more comfy than hanging around in car parks, eek i am getting old :)

Problem solved - I think.:)

See you around 1pm at Bladnoch, petrol station just before the pub.:D

Nice One:cool:

I'm up for this... where's Monkton ??... Is that the village not far from Prestwick Airport, or am I off the mark wildly... probably take the Hyper, so there needs to be plenty of fuel stops !!! At present I'm all slinged up, so is subject to getting the sign off from "Dr Bob" :D :D

all sounding good and yes miss we will all be present and correct for 10am sharp, bright eyed and bushy tailed:D (saturday early bed then;) )

Mad Dash hope you signed off in time :)

OK, know exactly where you are now... I'll be there for 10am. Arm is a bit of a concern though, as it stands can't wear a jacket with armour on the arms, which I'm not keen on. Did the jeans and t-shirts many years ago and lived to tell the tale  Travel time from Cumbernauld to Monkton Lodge, an hour should cover that easily ???

oops, we're you referring to the arm    I thought you were having a go for going down the "Ayr Way". Should be called the Ayr Waves Ducati run. Anyway, arm !!! no idea, been a tad sore for a week, then yesterday swoll up kind of bad.... whipped off by Dr Bob to A&E, which was a waste of 2 hours of my life. Bandaged and slinged, struggling to get a bike jacket on, can't swing a golf club... life is not good as it stands  Hoping to be OK for Sunday. Doc claims it has something to do with the fact I did 1500 miles on bikes last week and played golf 12 times in 7 days... what does he know. I was holding on rather "tight" last week, pushed to D16RR just a tad hard...

Guys, this arm is not looking good at all - I'm now a cross between elephant man and popeye... Sunday, if I'm there for 10am - all well and good, if I'm not DON'T WAIT.... I'm not convinced I'm biking this weekend  ... which guarantees the sunshine !!
