Strathclyde Bikesafe course 2007

How do folks,

firstly apologies for long time no posting, I'll get to the bar in a mo for a catch up.

Anyway, I've somehow managed to get onto the Bikesafe course run by Strathclyde's finest this year.

Anyone else managed to get an summons..... I mean an invitation?

Also, does anyone have any useful advice for taking the course - such as put the standard cans back on or can you run the risk with the DP titanium cans.

Any other useful tips would be gratefully received.

I've tried for a couple of years to do this but it seems all down to one police rider and whether he can manage.
Strathclyde are just not interested, ...unless theyre booking you!
I wouldn't turn up with anything that would target me, while I dont think the guy running bikesafe will do anything other than comment,every other moron in a uniform who passes might feel the need to be a smart arse and show off.:rolleyes:

I went to the Lothian Borders one last year....I asked them at the Scottish Bike show if it was Ok to turn up with Termis, small number plate and dark visor? Seriously.......

Their answer.......

We'll let you off with 2 but not 3! You choose :D

On the way back from Linlithgow, the cop said to me in the earpiece......"Can you keep up?"....... he then took off at about 100 plus on the twistys for about a minute with me flapping away behind, him gradually getting smaller and smaller in about 15 secs :eek: :D

Theyre there to help you become a better rider and thats it......it was a good day out......Dont worry
 
It may vary where you take part but here the comment from one of the officers running it was they are not interested in small plates, exhausts etc. purely to get as many folk to attend and save as many accidents as possible. I would imagine most police riders would take the same view. A comment from someone taking part here was that one rider in particular was getting smart about his ability and the officer said "lets see if you can keep up". 10 minutes max later the rider came across the police rider parked in a layby, sitting on a wall eating a chocolate bar asking the sweating rider if he had had a puncture. New found respect and no more attitude for the rest of the session.
 
Can I just add that it was well worth doing (you will learn something) and I think these guys do this voluntarily.......hats off to them! :)
 
I did the workshop session last night and have the rideout on Monday here in North Yorkshire. Before anyone asks, I volunteered and paid for this too!
 
Done the bike safe thing a couple of years back and it was well worth the effort. It was with Strathclydes finest and I have to say they seemed more interested in your riding than what you were riding. Although they checked all the bikes before going out it was really only to see if it was tax/mot'd and the tyres were okay.
I say, if you get the chance do it.

It'll run the risk I think... I'll ask the officer at the presentation day for his opinion... my opinion is that the extra noise is an additional safety feature! ;)
 
excellent - I'll be biking it down to EK and probably go for a short blast after (maybe to Hawick if the weathers good) - lemmy know if you wanna meet up first.
 
hmmm i used my work e-amil to contact the guy and cant access it to get the invite pack details - what do we need to bring again???

thought they (the police) came over well,sorry about not saying good bye had to leave in a hurry,enjoy the assessed ride,yer bike put mine to same very nice.

yeah it was a good day- very informative and the guys did come across very well. I just hope they manage to get bikes for my rideout - i kindly volunteered them my dad's 916 if they were stuggling.....
Thanks for the compliments about the bike - its just had all the fairing's resprayed - thats why it looks so good - worth it though for her to get some nice wee compliments!
 
it just looks the same...:( in pics any way - it would look perfect if davie hadnt gone over a temporary road surface at 25mph on its first outing!!!

When will you learn?

Don't give, tempt fate, allow to borrow, leave unattended, unsupervised etc.. ANYTHING at all if Davie is in the country :D
