Ride Out Etiquette

What is it? What’s the latest best practice? Anyone care to share their experience on this matter?

For example, assume 10 bikes, there’s a group leader, who should not be overtaken; a Tail End Charlie who should remain at the back at all times, but as for those in the middle 🤔. Etiquette is not to overtake the bike in front but also it’s always stressed this is not a race, those taking part should know the start, finish & stop off points and should travel at a pace they are comfortable with, not try to keep up with faster/ braver/stupider riders but is it then ok for someone who is faster etc and finds themselves behind a bimbler to overtake that person when safe to do so? I guess yes, but just soliciting opinions.

We have never discussed it, in fact we are meeting Sunday for a ride out and I don't even know where we are going or how long for - judging by where we are meeting we are heading West from York 🤷‍♂️

That sounds highly organised 👍

Perhaps my example of a 10 rider group is too small, probably not much need to faff about with that one, but, everyone, what if it were 20 or even 50 in a group 🤔

When ridden in a group it has tended to be the same 5 or 6 people. Without discussion, we had all seemed to fall into a natural position within the group. It's tended to be two or three at the front chopping and changing as chuckles and testosterone increases, a couple in the middle who are just enjoying thier day and happy to be out and of course the rear gunner (don't even think about it 😂 ) who has been the person to make sure everyone is okay, still with us and are protected from the vehicles behind the group.

It's a weird thing when you get such a close group that it is almost as though you think in sync without a word being said.

Never go out with more than 10, as I ride with mates only - not clubs and I don't have that many friends to get 50 together on the same day or even year 🤪

Both full right hand as we we're stopped on opposite sides of the crossroads and had clutchez in 🤔
Are we doing it right 👀
Aye, that’s fine 👍 unless.... If the other fella was on a Panzer then no, it’s not right. Having waved in acknowledgement at you he’s clearly breaking the Deutschefatherlandenroadrulegefunkenarbeit regulation 3.3.4.5 which states “thou shalt not condescend to wave at or acknowledge other 2 wheeled road uses who are not Mamils”.

If he was on a Panzer then don’t tell Jat or Robarano as they’ll probably just report him to the Gestapo😕

Phew, Yamaha FZ so we're fine 👍

They have an altogether different type of wave / salute 🙋‍♂️

You do notice a different reaction from other bikers when on Helga (less of a reaction, but you still get nods) 🤔

The Vespa is a different matter. Fook all reaction from any bikers at all, unless I've performed a kindly act to another biker when filtering etc. 🤷‍♂️
I find since I’ve had The Panzer less bikers acknowledge me.
That might be because I’m a Guinness though.....
Or maybe they are awestruck at the sight of The Panzer...

God, I just don't have the patience for a group ride of 10 or more.

It would need to be some kind of protest ride or ceremony to get me interested.

It may only be possible to get 100% compliance to a set of rules from a group ride if they were all German. Or maybe Harley riders, Harley riders like a good group ride.
