Return of the Mac SS

Right, so now I've retired from competitive sport I've got a track prepped 800SS kicking around................. so it needs ridden.

Here's the plan; take this

and turn it into a sorted and sweet road bike - on a budget.

Most of the track mods will stay as they are, so I'll be keeping the Ohlins, Power Comander etc on the bike, the bodywork will go though. Also, the original bodywork will be staying where it is.............. in the loft.

I'm thinking something more Kamna or Radical inspired, so where talking near naked, cafe racer-ish possibly and for onc sweet paintwork (I'll avoid spraying myself)

One more thing, I'm quite good at bodging, but this time I'm more bolt-on in thinking, I dont want an epic project, I'm looking to put it on the road for 2012 (do much else on just now to dive straight in)

So some inspiring web links required please, so me what can be done :)

Mainly money tbh, after racing most years since 2003 it's time to move on, explained it all in a couple of posts on this thread page

Wonder if I could buy her some black rubber instead,,,,,,,,, just to keep me hand in? :D

Ohh, which reminds me, I believe a red Marchesini of mine is going to Pictavia; is it a bit like Harry Potter, do you walk through the wall at Ducati Glasgow and end up in the fantastical Pictavia Garage with self moving bike lift and a majical dyno that gives ya an extra 50 bhp? :)

But outwith the remit of this project. :(

Wire wheels et all would cost way to much, I'm thinking less proper cafe racer and more modern homage in the spirit off....

Had a look around the interweb last night, kaemna and wiess both do a similer micro bikini fairing, the kaemna includes a fitting kit at three times the price of Wiess, Always been wary of the quality of Wiess stuff so would probably avoid them to be honest.

Had a though today about making a 1098 bikini fairing, although in reality 999 based would be easier due to the very similar front sub fram mounting between the SS and 999 / 749.

The core of the bike will fundamentally be the same; chassis, wheels, clip ons, high level cans etc will remain. I'll get new nicer rearsets though.

The area which in my mind needs the most work is the seat unit. Stock is too bulbous, needs a slimed down single seat unit, another thing I dontlike is the indent line that runs along the fuel tank and the stock seat unit; I feel some filler getting done before the tank is sprayed to smooth out the eyeline.

Keep the ideas coming though; I'm only doing this once so need to do it right!
 
well this little 900ss is one of the best ive ever seen, it belongs/belonged to a DSC (Ducati Sporting Club) member known as chicken and the photo is by Guido on here, he may have more shots of it...

Now that I do like :D I will stick to my white/red/green colours but really like the lines of that bike. Got a front pic?

I wasn't :confused: I'm happy with the 5 spoke Marchies - I want to spend as little as I can get away with, as ultimately I'm throwing money in which will never be re-couped. :o
 
Needing some advice troops; vast amount of difference in cost here, is there any reason the Kamna fairing is better???????

I cant equate 240 euros to £70 from Ricambi when the only visible difference is the use of the black rubber pad which goes above the headlamp and the re-inforcement for the mounts (easily added)

The blue bike is Kamna, red bike Ricambi & the seat will look like the Kamna (I think....)
 
If you are happy to dick about with resin and filler I think get the Ricambi. By the time you have it how you want it you still won't have spent the Kaemna money.

I've repaired that many race fairings over the years dicking about with resin & filler is 2nd nature :D

TBH, whats prompting the question is the Kamna part doesn't look like its worth owt like £200+ its not the money, its what I'm getting for the money. Dont want to spend that much coin and have toend up re-working nearly as much as the £72 fairing......

Money isn't an issue (mental note to self, stop coming across as a tightwad) wasting money is an issue; the Kamna fairing is nearly 3 times the price but doesn't look 3 times the quality.

The race fairing isn't an option as arrived at its new owners house today - there's another minitwin SS on the horizon, its a bike I know & I'm waiting with baited breath to see it running on track :)

Thanks for the link, only issue is I really want a micro fairing rather than a half fairing; for a half fairing I could buy standard lowers to add to the full stock kit I have in the loft.
