Recall

Guys heads up for Multi owners.

I had a recall notice come through about oil cooler hoses. Might be worth checking up on as Ducati UK might not have an upto date list of owners and addresses. Mine is a 2004 model.

Recall 2

Must be something in the air - D16RR recalled to, I would assume given the newness of the beast that the databases are indeed up to date. Again, something to do with clips and hoses.

Total Recall

I'm going to raid the DVD shelves tonight - just reminded myself of the Arnie film Total Recall, great film, great acting

Recall 3

seems the all the 1098's have been recalled..... well they must have, a new model has been launched, the 1198... it can't be, surely not, the 1098 is only 24 months old... it must be a recall :sarcasm:

Really? Not heard anything myself...

Had mine done (2004 model) in about 2005? Got the recall back then, whats the date on your recall?

I'll check the recall number, quoted it to DG when I phoned about it and the double checked to confirm it hadn't been done on some sort of database held by DucUK.

Jon, that's ridiculous you've not been notified, I don't think it's anything too serious - no I take that back, it wouldn't be recalled if it wasn't.

If you PM me a fax number I'll fax my recall notice down. It refers to "clips on the filler plug drain and fuel breather hose need to be inspected and, if necessary, replaced as it could fail and impair the safe operation of the motorcycle."

Not sure if that's serious, but the bit underlined would indicate that it's an issue, otherwise bean counters wouldn't have recalled

FYI Safety Recall Notice is 764 - Ducati D16RR GBR 08 GPW GPB STD

Hope that helps. Mine hasn't been done yet, and unlikley to be done until its spring service, having just spent the entire week giving it the "winter strip down and clean" - it's goin' NOWHERE.

I just looked at the VOSA database, there are NO recalls listed for the DD16RR but there are four for the 1098

That's bizarre Derek... I have the D16RR recall notice from Ducati, albeit a letter "Dear Customer". I have NOTHING relating to the 1098, but it could well be that these are previous recalls that have already been applied to the 2008 model of the 1098R.

Well done Mr Mole for trawling through the VOSA database.

Mentioned this to a few other freinds with D16RR's the details maybe in the post, they may even have got lost????

you ARE joking, right?

erm  YES, like it's the worst film in the world EVER, well maybe not the Rocky Balboa film I think deserves that title. Schwarnennnnnnegggggar... whatever, and Stallone..... yep, America's finest actors.

I think it is best to get these recalls into perspective before people get into a panic.

The first recall is the pulley tensioning wheel from early 2007. Of the 75 1098s we sold last year - only one was affected. This was taken care of rapidly on a few of the first machines delivered.

The second is a possible fuel leak if the pipes / clamps were not torqued properly. We have never seen this on any of our bikes to date. That amounts to considerably over 130 bikes or so. Again, dealt with rapidly and only affected a handful of machines with certain chassis numbers.

The third was that some machines required a throttle body set up due to stalling - no big deal. The ECUs were then updated to incorporate the change in mapping. Very occasionally new versions will stall (usually after pipes are fitted) but the fix is again a very simple throttle set up.

The fourth is the recent sprocket change. This is deemed neccessary on certain bikes that have the original type fitted. We have never seen any issues with any sprocket but are replacing as per factory recommendations as a matter of course.

Nothing to really worry about here folks, especially as three of the four issues were minor in nature, affected few machines, over a year old and will all have been carried out by now.

You will be contacted if there is an issue. If you have any doubts, take your bike to your local dealer and ask them to check for you - main thing is not to worry!

Mart:)

I'm not worried Martin, just looking for a reason to have a right good BITCH at Ducati ;) They are NOT on my Christmas Card list

Thanks for the update though, appreciate the record being set straight.

Sorry but I think any vehicle recall shows a lack of QA. There only seems to be one recall on the Multi and it looks like it was 17/12/2004.

How the hell has my bike not had the recall work carried out yet????

I've never had notification before. I have owned the bike for nearly 3 years. It was registered on an 04 plate....

Suffice to say I am not happy.

Details of recall....

Concern : OIL MAY LEAK FROM OIL COOLER DELIVERY AND RETURN HOSES
Description : Oil may leak from the oil cooler delivery and return hoses, which could result in contamination of the rear tyre.
Remedial Action : Recalled machines will have the subject delivery and return hoses replaced.
Vehicle Id : ZDMA100AA3B000001 to ZDMA100AA3B006107

Where did you buy the bike? Did the selling dealer, previous owner or you - fill out the change of ownership form in the warranty book and send it to the right place?

Has it already been done? Have DucatiUK sent the previous owner the request already and you are being sent this letter in error? Have you checked that possibility yet? Have you phoned them to see?

Have you moved house recently and informed Ducati of the change of address? Is there a reason you may have just popped up on the ownership register? Have you had a warranty claim done against your bike that has flagged up the fact the last one has not been completed?

Is the cooler or its connections leaking? (obviously not or you would have noticed) It has lasted 4 years, clearly there is no major problem. Might have been done?!!!

:chill: Don't get upset - every manufacturer (cars, vans, bikes, planes, helicopters, blah blah) has recalls from time to time. You've just gotta get on with it!

So many questions Martin...how many are relevant?

Bought it from Alvins. Obviously I cannot confirm if Alvins updated their info. I certianly did.

It seems the recall work has not been done as one of your staff checked after I phoned in on Wednesday.

The original owner is a member on here, I have spoken to the about the bike and they never mentioned any recall.

The recall has arrived at my home address so obviously Ducati UK have my current address. The letter asks if the reciever of the letter is not the current owner to provide any forwarding details.

Your staff had my chassis details, the last time my bike was into you guys was June 07. Unless there has been a recent data merge I can see no logical explanation for the delay.

To me it doesn't matter if there has been a failure or not, a SAFETY recall has not been carried out 4 years after it became apparent.

Asking me to Chill and get on with it actually quite annoys me.

I like Ducati, I like the majority of the people I have met thru my bike.

I may be in the minority on DUN in the fact I can see the flaws in the brand/company and can look objectively at issues that some call character/personality or make other excuses for.

Take off the Ducati Oakleys Martin. Not everything is rosy in the Bologna garden.

Right, I was being nice and calm, trying to be friendly and offer an explanation that might be - now i'm not!

I don't issue the recall notices - we just act on them - so get annoyed if you like and we can talk about it next time I see you!

And i've got the oakleys off ya cheeky f@ck!

I didn't once refer any of my original issues to DG. Your staff have helped me with every effort after my initial phone call.

My issue, as stated, was the length of time in notification, a Ducati UK issue I would think.

I don't know how you expected me to answer some of your questions, maybe they were rhetorical, it wasn't clear.

I was annoyed at the chill and get on with it.

I don't think I need to express my feelings on that last post.

.....

I don't think I need to express my feelings on that last post.

Really, well let me just say for the record - I don't come onto forums like these to be given the "your staff" and "Ducati Oakleys" type of treatment!

If you want to talk to me like that, you can come into the store.

I come on here for fun, to get together with friends and generally have a laugh. If I can have a debate, offer advice or help out I will.

I don't appreciate the "them and us" approach you just adopted. I'm not here for that!

sorry guys, but i think finally it can only be due to a misunderstanding that emotions runs high. there could be several circumstances to create a huge delay to get finally the recall.

paul, pls. don't misunderstand me. you expected, of course, a prompt and direct information of possible existing problems with can affect your registered bike. but a) after three years of not knowing the prob yr bike is still running without a leak (i presume). and b) after you got the info and called the store you got the help with the confirmation of a). but as i mentioned before: there're a lot of possible reasons...

at least, sources like forums, clubs and dealers are often a better and more direct way to be informed.

you shouldn't be  . think about yr and a lot of other bikes weren't affected of the might existing problem. means to me: you own a quality bike.

ok, again, ducati oakleys on...:D

Martin,

I am not having a pop at you. I posted because I was annoyed at the delay. I didn't, as I have said already, have a go at DG or yourself.

You decided to defend the brand as you saw fit.

I might have interpreted your initial post incorrectly, the thread has gone down hill since.

I have always been straight with you and will continue to do so on my visits to the shop.

Pretzi, don't worry mate.... sometimes gets a bit heated on here!;)

Well.
My first Ducati, a 749 Bip, had a very serious fault.
After coming off the M80 at speed, the oil cooler pipes let go, and all the oil, under full pressure coated me and my bike in vapourised oil. I slid across the road and missed atruck by millimeters. Mad Dash saw the oil trail so he can vouch for the trajectory.
I got carted into the shop and me, armed with legal letter, was placated with replacement bike. A 749s Mono for mine plus money.

But.

And this still makes me laugh.

2 years later Ducati sent me a recall for the oil cooler!! Naturally I chucked it in the bin, because the dealer will have changed the ownership details of course................ (what he said!!)

Bottom line is recalls are badly handled by everyone involved. Even the Best Dealer In Britain can @@@@ it up from time to time.

No manufacturer ever wants to attract attention to a recall for obvious reasons. Perish the thought someone got the wrong end of the stick and thought the bikes had issues!!!!

Hey! Happy to help!!

Actually, that wasn't oil cooler or cooler hoses.

But thanks for the help!:D

...I had a recal notice for my ProjectImola at one of the DG trackevenings this year, my oil seal gave up the ghost. I marched straight into my local dealer (my garage) and demanded that the work be carried out immediately. The work was duly carried out FOC by a hansome young technician  - hasn't leaked since!!!! ;) :D :D :D

...sorry, I've had a few too many sherberts this evening!! :D
