Re-Build Update

Niall, Just an observation but that's a blummin' great battery you've got on there, why didn't you opt for the wee gel racing ones that Ducati now use - half the size and half the weight. :)

Sorry Steve, when it comes to the aesthetics of the Ducati Monster, function plays a very poor second for me. There's not a hope in hell of ever getting me to put one of those things on any Monster of mine ;)

Ok, so what's the alternative or are you going totally naked as it were

Isn't it...you could start a tank with that thing :D It's just the one I had left over from the 750...so I guess I could replace it. Do you have any make/model/size/supplier info?

Well mine's from GS - and its a GT12B-4 sealed jobbie - if that helps

Yep...I think a 'Naked' bike should be just that

I agree with you there, that is why I put this screen on mine as it gives you the wind protection and with it being totally transparent still gives the totally naked look! It is made from very thick perspex and is a quality item IMO, anyway each to his own as it were!

on the screen front , finnaly got me new one fitted ish

I think that has pretty much the same spec/weight/size etc as the Yuasa YT12B-BS, the battery that generally replaces the stock on the Monster...no?

If it is, then its actually pretty much the same size as the Odessy, a little lighter but not by any difference that my level of riding will notice :o

Those gel batteries in the link that Steve posted look interesting though.

I dont know about the battery in the link but we use GEL battery's from Sonnenschein at work .As you will see their main use apart from solar power applications is starting marine diesl engines ( even if submerged ! ) . Anyway they are the bollocks and deliver plenty of starting current right down to nearly flat . The downside woth these is if you do discharge themn to less than 12V ( 12,8V is full charged 12=0 charge) they are therafter U/S ( dont try to recharge in this state , they wil look like they are taking a charge but they will not hold it) All that said they are exceptional for turning over moters requiring a lot of starter current .

Check their web page there is a lot of tech data on Gel batts.

Think exide Uk can get you one .

I have to agree - that thing is fecking hideous!

thats just tempererory,
because of the different screen my extra dials wont fit behind the fairing properly so there sticking out the front at the moment , cant read them at all.

i kinda like the odd appearance though, might get some sidelights on stalks or sumit.

It probably won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, in fact I’m not even sure it's mine yet, but I finished wiring up the Motoscope MINI from Motogadget today.

I was running the 750 without clocks, because I loved the look of the uniterupted flow of the line from the top of the tank down to the front of the bike. This was a compromise to staying legal this time ;)

It's not a bad wee thing actaully, with the following functions: Rev Counter (LED Band); Rev Counter (Numeric); RPM Threshold/Gear Shift light; Speedometer; Trip Odometer; Total Odometer (Adjustable) and Trip Time.
