Now that bits and pieces are slowly (very) beginning to come back, and I’ve had a little spare time to fit them, I thought I'd post an update of the project thread I began so long ago :o

So...before:

And this is where we've got to so far:

  • Nichols light weight aluminium clutch basket
  • Barnett clutch plates
  • SpeedyMoto pressure plate
  • CycleCat springs and retainers
  • CycleCat open clutch cover
  • Nichols lightened flywheel
  • Nichols crankcase breather
  • Yoyodyne slave clutch cylinder
  • Goodridge braided head feeds
  • Renthal 15T sprocket (43T going on rear ;) )
  • Engine covers painted by Jacksons of Kelty
  • All other surfaces done by rattle can
  • Swing arm/suspension hoop powder coated by Aerocoat
  • Intakes polished by JP Polishing
  • Oil filler cap by Oberon
  • Suspension jack up kit by Louigi Moto
  • All fasteners, banjo bolts etc replaced with titanium from Pro-Bolt...I know, I know…it’s a weakness :banghead:

what frame colour did you decide on?

Well, I've decided on a red frame. I reckon that will give me plenty of scope to try out different tank and cowl combinations in seasons to come.

This season though, I'm playing safe and going for the white S4R look. I'm not keen at all on the design of the liquid cooled Monsters, but I do love that colour scheme

Don't know the ins and outs of this, but what are you building, a one off or a re build?

Re-build of a 900 Monster. They're all kind of one off's though arent they :)

Do a metal flake paint job on the frame ,its awesome.
Im re building a Suzuki GS 750, and its got a nice dark red powdercoated metal flake paint job, well worth it.Only cost about £90.

Noooooooo...stop it! I'm like that bloody character on The Fast Show...don't say things like this, I've made up my mind for good this time :D

Jan, the bike is at my folks house...it's their conservatory...erm WAS their conservatory. I visit them every so often to work on it. For some reason they're not very happy with me right now :dunno:

Yes please don't start confusing the poor guy. We ALL suffered as he tortured himself over the possible colour schemes and whilst I must confess I lost track of what the final colour was going to be I know for certain it was NOT metalflake red. So for everyone's sanity leave the poor demented bloke alone. If he is happy, believe me, we are ALL happy!:santawink: (ps engine looking good! )

...it's also got it's rear shocks on up the wrong way - so much for unsprung weight and all that!!!

Niall, looking good mate!! :)

But but look, look how shiney and sparkly and lovely and christmasy and lovely and nice and spangly it is!
What about the wheels, you gonna give them a pearlescent effect :D

I’ll post pictures later but…

I’m just back from picking up the frame this morning. A while back I asked for some recommendations, the most promising sounding of which I thought was Gordon’s recommendation of Brooklands Auto Bodies in Dalkeith.

The result? Absolutely AMAZING  The quality of the finish is incredible

For ages I was torn between whether to get the frame powder coated or painted. I eventually decided on painting because of the higher quality of finish.

Turns out what Brooklands do with all their frames is to first of all powder coat them, the same colour the finished frame is going to be, and then paint and lacquer on top of the powder coat layer. The result is tough as nuts and like I say the finish is incredible!

I asked them about doing the tank and the cowl and he seemed pretty confident they could do it. Doing a frame in one colour is one thing, I reckon this will be a true test of their skills…we’ll see ;)

Now that would have saved him a lot of time playing about with Photoshop ;)

Kinda takes the fun out of it though :p

Ian the whole frame was done by Brooklands, including the power coating. All the other coating - swing arm etc was done by Aerocoat in Norfolk.

Pictures Pictures !! look forward to seeing it m8.

i think the only descent place in Glasgow for Coating is ESP.

why did you send down to Norfolk, are they Exceptional ?

I'm going up to Mum and Dads tomorrow for the weekend, so I'm hoping to get a bit further on with it...I'll post some pictures don't worry :)

Aerocoat are in indeed exceptional...but believe it or not Brooklands blows even them away. The attention to the masking was like it was his own baby that he was working on...I really can't recommend him highly enough...really nice guy too

They don't take glass cheques Ian, you'll need to flog a few more big issues before you can get your key powder coated!!
