RTL 2006 Date Confirmed

The date for Raid the Lakes 2006 is 10/11 June, venue Glenridding, Ullswater.

Please check the RTL page on the main site for current info.

Can anyone interested in helping please let me know by PM.

Linzi, Freak, Ian, Lil, Martin H I'm counting you in already.

Venue is confirmed, deposit paid for the room. I'll be updating the RTL pages tonight with the booking form for the evening meal.

To whet your appetite the menu is on line www.ducati-upnorth.com/RTL2006menu.php the forms aren't there yet neither is the children's menu.

Room holds 35 max so please book early. The hotel does offer a special Dinner, Bed and breakfast package but its a 3 star hotel which has just had a 2.5M refurd, in the Lake District in summer and the prices reflect that. There is other accommodation locally as well as a selection of bars which serve food.

Booking form are online at the bottom of the menu page

Please return as quickly as you can, spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. PM me or Linzi if you need more info.

The RTL page is updated with new event details, timing etc.

How to

I've been asked "how do I register for RTL" a couple of times recently so I'll clarify the procedure.

There is no charge for attending RTL, all we provide is a location to meet for 2 days, a selection of routes/rides and company :) However to make it easier for planning, number of maps needed, logistics etc it would be very helpful if you could go the the calendar event - Saturday and Sunday and confirm your attendance. Please do it for each day you will be there as we know there are riders who can only attend one day so they can complete the appropriate day. You must be an UpNorth member to do this, please register to enable the "attend event" option on the calendar.

if you want to attend the Saturday evening dinner, follow the links in the threads above, download the form and return it before May 15th. We have to confirm numbers with the hotel and guarantee that we will take the room we have a deposit on!!

We will we producing a commemorative T shirt, this will be produced in time for the event but you will have to register and prepay for the shirt. More details to follow.

Depending upon demand we will also produce a commemorative photo album of the event, it will be hardbound and cost approx £25 plus P and P We'll have a sample of the 05 event printed to show how it will look. This relies upon photos from everyone attending so please bring your cameras. You will be able to order the book at the event.

For those riders with Garmin GPS units we will produce a downloadable route file for each day so you can preload the routes. We will also post downloadable route maps and descriptions, these will be zip files with a password so only those attending will have access to the exact route.

Can everyone planning on attending RTL please go to the calendar events

http://www.ducati-upnorth.com/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=24&day=2006-6-10&c=1

http://www.ducati-upnorth.com/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=47&day=2006-6-11&c=1

and register, please subscribe to each day if you are doing both and if you'll be there friday it might be worth adding your name to that as well. thanks

There are still places available for the dinner, please download the forms and return ASAP if you want to come along

RTL routes and schedules are now available for dowload.

Please go to http://idisk.mac.com/gizmo999-Public from there you can download both days routes as maps, descriptions garmin gps files and gpx files. Please print both the map and route description for each day you will attend and bring it with you!!. If you use a GPS please download the GPS files and transfer to your GPS unit prior to RTL, we won't have computer access at the event to do this.

Please download and print the Schedule, it is in pdf and word format. It contains important information on the running of the event, please read it and make sure you understand everything, if you are unsure please ask.

You will also find a guide for riding in groups. Whilst RTL is a social meet and not an organised rideout ( its a suggested route :)) some of you may choose to ride that route as a group, please make sure you follow the guidelines contained in that document, RTL isn't a race , trackday or opportunity to prove you are a fast road rider and your fellow RTL'ers aren't treating it as such.

It now looks very likely we'll have other 50 bikes at each day so please take care.

A couple of things omitted from the schedule is that the hotel have requested we park at the north end of the car park ( Ramblers Bar) side. They have a wedding on the Saturday morning and I'm sure the bride and groom don't want 50 Ducati's in their wedding photos :) They've also requested we do our best to minimise noise so whilst it may seem like a great opportunity to let everyone hear your new race termi system please resist until you are out on the open road :)

There will be additonal files for you to download over the coming days, please keep checking the download site.

if you have downloaded the Sunday Route directions please note that there is a mistake, at 57 miles you turn onto the A683 not A684. I've uploaded a revised file tonight.

Friday night ride Video Teaser

For those of you arriving Friday I'd planned on a short run out onto one of the best roads around which we won't do during RTL. procided the weather is OK and the roads are dry I'll be at the Inn for about 5.30.

In the http://idisk.mac.com/gizmo999-Public folder there are wmv and mp4 versions of the same on board video taken by Marko at the legal speed limit last week on one of the roads. File size is about 38meg so expect a long download time. Please note don't download both, they are identical only in different formats. even at the speed Marko did that run in it'll give you an idea of what to expect, including motorhomes, horses and bikes on white line coming at you.

Take Care

I've just been round Saturday's route and found that there is a Cruise West Cumbria event on in Carlisle this saturday and Sunday so expect boy racers on the roads heading towards Carlise, the A595 will be the worst. Luckily they put a banner on the roundabout on the 595 where you need to turn right towards Cockermouth, which, provided its still there, makes it a good navigation point.

Marker arrows are now in place for Saturday's route, hopefully they won't be moved before then. Only the major junctions are signed.
