Retired to Eurosport and supercooled Fosters !

i was meant to be pedalling at half 6 this morning also but it was not to be after last night.

missed the moto gp :(

Well I have just chucked my gloves in the wasking machine, wish me luck !

Not sure about the 'lily and riceflower' fabric conditioner though !

well we went and did it - four of us, me, sticky, aircooled and steve999(with pillion). Stonking rideout, spoiled at the end as we left Hawes and went to Settle, we fuelled - then the heavens opened and it was a long slow wet plod back home. Worth getting out though.

yeah, great ride...never seen a pillion airbourne before!
Great chippy also in Hawes (not) Allowed us a 45 minute break though while they made the tea!!!???

great ride from hawes home even getting p*ss wet through from settle to home was better then the first half of the ride, them roads are not for bikes with engines but are better suited to mountain bikes. don't want to fall out with you pete but will not be coming out on any runs like that one as not nice for pauline me or the bike

You need to look at what else you get from the ride other than riding.

Think how long we spent in 30/40 zones yesterday. Where were the roundabouts, traffic lights, pelican crossings, bollards, road hatchings, speed humps, chicanes? How about the speed cameras, radar guns, cop cars, 4x4's driven by numpties, boy racers, or white vans? How about the throttlejockeys on jap crap, with green mohicans, wearing only jeans and "sweats" flapping stupidly over their leathers, overtaking on blind bends, crawling all over the road and threatening old ladies, giving us a bad reputation? At Devil's probably, or Donington Park. Good, keep 'em there!

What we did get were nice open, uncrowded roads, with magnificent views of both ground and sky, beautiful panoramas, expansive colourful vistas with a bit of peace and quiet thrown in for good measure. Sure, there was a bit of gravel, some sheep @@@@, no kerbs, some snow poles, a few drystone walls and some "humping" - sorry Pauline.

Did you know we saw into four counties yesterday, crossed five river valleys and went to about eight places you'd never even heard of? All on an evenig rideout within 60 miles of home. You are a good quick rider and it's a pleasure to be out with you, but you need to develop your style and spread your wings a bit. Then you will see the bigger picture. The bike is irrelevant, the speed is irrelevant, the comfort is irrelevant. It's being there that matters, in good company (or not, if you prefer) and having the experience on the day.

Never regret anything you've done; only regret that which you didn't do!

Some bits of the ride were hard work, but you are absolutely right Pete. Take the ride home......traffic ad infinitum, crawling along at 40 mph cos of a bit of rain. You'd think they had no wipers and slicks on the wheels.

Your a scary man Pete

But a lot of that makes sense ;)

many routes i pick have all the pleasures that your routes have but are far more comfortable on the arse and wrists and do not only involve speed but a large amount of skill on a bike.
if i could take you on the back of me and do the same trip as last night i suspect i would have you crying like a new born baby.
seriously when you organise a run out you must think of who you are inviting and where you will be taking them to make sure the ride suits the rider.

great ride out pete enjoyed evey part of it, great roads stunning views and mad roads its what riding a bike is all about

With respect Steve, RJ outlined his route in the first post, it is your responsibility to check that you want to tag along on 'his' ride, after all thats all he offered.

What suits one does not always suit others, we worked hard in the last couple of years with RTL to make sure that everyone was catered for, I for one hate all the roads in the Hawes area and will no longer ride them as I see them as dangerous and I would not do a ride on them, you may see me at Hawes, I will have come from Ingleton though.

As you hail from Ilkley I would have thought that when RJ outlined his route you would know roughly where it was going and on what type of roads.

Feel free to organise a rideout and I am sure as many people who can will come along.

So RJ was going out for a ride, he would have gone with or without you, I am sure in the future he will go without you, as said before you tagged along on a ride he was going to do anyway, I am sure you could have peeled off at any point.

I look forward to your rideout ;)

Hi Pete, Sorry couldn't make Sunday - got your txt but lump in groin getting bigger, sadly in wrong place!!

Regarding comments - only been out in your company the once - when't snow was on the ground, good, fast, safe - that thing on the right hand side of the bars goes both ways!!

Saw you've got a .monster' thinking of similar due to third tentacle - what'd you recommend - I've been to Duc/leeds and the little 695 looks nice.

Cheers, Mac.

with respect dseered i rang pete and asked him where he was going, i told him i did not know any of the roads and he did not say what the roads were like as last time i went out with him on a different route i told him that them sort of roads did not suit me or two up riding and i did not see the post on the web site as i was out and he texted me

Fair play then matey, I did not realise that you had not seen the post. If I see a ride posted I will always check the route before I agree to ride it, done a few two ups on the 749 and my mate thought is was very comfy, I can imagine it being a nightmare on bad roads though !

yes cheers for that. pauline has been my pillion for 21years and let me do anything i want kneedowns, racing anything.last night was the first time she has complained and gone to bed in pain

I wasn't organising a ride - I was going out myself on my ride and invited people to join in. As dseered said I was going anyway. Perhap I won't invite anyone again. Comfort of arse and wrists would not have been affected by the ride anyway - your riding position will not have changed at all, could be you were tired 'cos of your long day. At the risk of being very confrontational, why would I be crying? A pillion should never be scared - the rider has the responsibility to ensure that doesn't happen. Can't honestly see the problem here, as Mac says the twisty thing goes both ways. Nobody in any of my groups is pressurised to do anything they don't want - they know they won't get left behind, I always ensure all junctions are clearly "marked" and "catch up" is not necessary. As you say there is no need to fall out over this, all I wanted to do was go for a ride.

That's a bit of a shame young sir, hope it all works out. Haven't ridden Monster yet - trailered it home after a quick test ride at the dealers and MOT is Tuesday. It feels comfy, high wide bars and a Sargent seat should do the trick though. Also very softly sprung, bit like an old armchair. You can have a go when you get across. Will issue progress reports!

Just re-read this post here Steve and still don't really understand. The only ride we did prior to this was the Ripon, Masham, Middleham, Leyburn road and back. Then we did it again today! How is that road not suitable for either two up riding or your riding? My pillions love it. The A6108 cannot be bettered as a ride, even merely out and back as we did! Bike mag use it as part of their 440 test route and they rate it highly. It has everything a biker could need - fast open corners, slower non-tightening corners, some combination flick-flacks, some good straights, a decent road surface, pretty good visibility overall and few villages. We're doing it again on Sunday..........:D :D :D

best to let it lie don't you think and if not busy we will try to join you for part of the ride on sunday if we're welcome
