When I spoke to the fella recently he was happy to tell me that Ducati Glasgow was currently top of the sales chart in the UK for new bikes, great stuff

I heard that too Jon

Very well deserved it is too - top work Martin!

Here's hoping this is a bumper year for you fella, with many more to follow ;)

Long may it continue

Good to see and more Duc's on the road can't be a bad thing:thumbs:
Glad it's all goin well for you Martin and as long as we keep praising you do we get a rebate mate;)

Thanks for all the kind words guys!!:) :)

It's been the busiest year we have had in a while and it's not slowing down, in fact it's getting even more crazy as the days go on!!!:D :D

Keith is selling just about everything he can get his hands on!

It just means i'm getting less time off than usual (which wasn't much in the first place!!)

We're getting a lot of referrals from this site, so thanks to everyone out there who's been spreading the word and posting words of thanks, it really is appreciated by all the staff here AND it's getting noticed by us and other folks.

To everyone, thanks for all your support and we'll keep doing our best for all the Ducatisti out there!

See ya at RTL!:)

All the best and loads of thanks from

Kerrie, Keith, Walter, Harry, Charlie, Geoff and Me :D

At least not with Davie anyhow.... I nominate Gordon. Retail experience and could get customers in with his unique sales pitch. " @@@@ off I am sending messages to DUN"

Gordon doesnt sell any clothes or gear......he just hands out free cups of coffee/tea and biscuits.......well to me anyway! ;)

saying that......so do you Martin......

I'll get me coat! :D :D

Ducati Edinburgh
If you opened up in Edinburgh wouldn't you be splitting the sales between the two instead of increasing sales? If someone wants a Ducati then they will travel to get it.

stevie us edinburgers would rather go anywhere than glasgow mate its an east west thing.there are rumours of if you own a fiver after a weegies touched it youll catch scabies.and if you look at an ugly weegie female for longer than five seconds her dad will make you marry her.
Personally i dont believe any of these things..... i mean who heard of a weegie owning a fiver, and whos heard of a weegie who stays around long enough to know what his daughter looks like?
;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

seriously tho i can only see martin opening a store in edinburgh to prevent anybody else from doing it. i think that somebody will try it at some point and from martins point of view if the sales were going to be split east/west hed be as well picking up those himself rather than letting somebody else get them.but that would mean effectivley doubling his costs two shops two sets of staff etc. but thats just my thoughts, martin will now answer this by saying i dont half talk pish ;)

I thought Ducati have the country divided up into areas so you can't have more than one dealer/showroom per .....whatever the area size is?

A fair point, you might think that would be the case (it's probably the opposite in truth), in fact sales can be harmed by not having a local service point for the simple things / small parts or even just to pop in for a taste of "the lifestyle" we have in here.

It also must be hard for those to the north and south of Edinburgh to get here at certain times. It could take 1.5 hours-plus to get from some areas and that is too much for some people. I can sympathise with that.

I like to think the service is well worth it but some folks find it difficult to find the time for the travelling to and from. There is also a certain amount of extra expense in doing so involved.

We have planned a pick up and drop off service to the Edinburgh area but until we find the time availability in the workshop to cope with the extra work, i'm afraid that service is yet to be implemented.

In this day and age, post can cope with most of the small things, but there is just no substitution for popping in and having a coffee in your local dealer and getting some person to person advice.

We have lots of customers that do, a lot of whom frequent this site. It's part of what makes a store a store.

The brand needs a good boost in the east now, there will certainly be enough business to support two stores it is just finding the right balance / location to support that.

We are working with Duc UK to best approach the East and North to support the areas with both sales and service expertise, but it's a big proposition!!

I must be honest though, it's another challenge i'm looking forward to!:)

As things happen, I will post the details on our trusted DuN:cool:

Just read this, don't be daft mate!!!

You're right, I would rather service the Edinburgh area in the same way as we have done in Glasgow for the last four years but it takes a lot of planning.

Eg.
What size of store?
How many staff?
What location? (Edinburgh is fairly expensive in places as you probs know!!)
How many units do we consider we could sell?
What's the present state of the "Ducati economy" out there!
Am I able to split myself in two to monitor both areas?
My managers would need to oversee any new store from the start, can they afford the time??

The list of questions go on and on, these few above only scratch the surface!

We can do it, but it takes a fair bit of planning and market research.

I'd happily travel through to Glasgow - or further afield - to look at or buy a new bike. As this happens infrequently (unfortunately) I could justify doing this. :)

Servicing's different though. I don't want to have to take time off work to drop off and collect the bike. Martin's collection service is a good idea, but being a selfish bassa the most convenient solution for me would be for a Ducati approved workshop to be located in Edinburgh. ;)

Van Driver or Director?

It is a tricky one. I once worked for a business that expanded into Glasgow with one shop in each city. The boss reckoned he spent more time driving between the two and definitely diluted the business. Apart from the hard financial side it is finding the right staff who are committed to making the new branch work as well as the first - not an easy task.

If it is economy of scale that is sought then be careful, certainly the wise heads in my industry say that you need 6 to 10 outlets for this to start counting.

I've been to Ducati Glasgow and I'm going back, it is about a 300 mile round trip for me so the Embra contingent should consider themselves local! And yes I know about the East West thing having lived in both cities.

After dropping the bike it is a two stop ride on the Glasgow Underground to Queen Street and 40 minutes back to Edinburgh so transport links are easy. (Good excuse to have a pint in the Halfway House in Fleshmarket Close.)Anyway where else is there to go to get a Ducati properly serviced around the East.

hey martin ive just had a thought,if you opened shops in aberdeen, perth and edinburgh you could just call yourself ducati scotland. now that sounds impressive and could be the first step in martins world domination lol;)
