Slight update that most won't give a poop about
I have bought the ps5 with the disc option. I also bought a ps5 digital (with no disc) for the grandsons birthday and now the comparisons are quite obvious.
On average, If I am downloading a game from a disc, it takes around 2 hours of downloading and then I can play the game everytime after as long as I put the disc in. The benefit of this is obvious. Games that cost £60 when new, often are sold second hand for around £15 - £20. One down side is for some is that it is not the best looking of the two as it has a cd drive built in so a bit more bulkier and if you have young kids playing it, they are not great at disc care, leaving them all over the bedroom, sticky fingers, scratches etc
The digital ps5 cannot download discs and every game has to be downloaded at full price through a ps plus membership which at the basic , has a £49.99 annual subscription fee. One benefit of that is every month they offer one ps5 and two ps4 games a month free. You do have to be more involved in the ps plus membership to see what bargains can be had.
The biggest problem so far experienced has been the downloading of digital games. One of the games he tried to download yesterday came up with a 24 hour download time. Two reasons for this. The game involved is a very big and popular game so not only downloads what the disc would have, but also every single online playing option too.
The other restriction is internet speed. The grandkids house is incredibly internet based. All of their phones are wifi enabled when at home to save using their mobile data. Then there is thier tv on the wifi, the three tablets, two smart watches and an Apple computer on wifi too. This will have quite an effect on the downloading speed.
Having tried all of the PS4, PS5 digital and PS5 disc versions, I would say for me and it is just me, someone who plays one or two games and infrequently, For me I genuinely feel if you have a PS4 and an average tv, save the PS4 and buy a far better TV the results are on a par with the PS5.
One last thing. When they first came out and even today in the marketing, they look white, in reality they are a light grey, similar to the ps2 console grey
Okay, boring post over, carry on
