Penicillin

Dave, you might get yours from Hawaii, but we get ours from Manchester, so it's called Mank :D

Fuckin Hawaii? The best Manuka Honey is from NZ mate, although those cheating Aussies are trying to sell their inferior crap and calling it Manuka Honey, but since they don't have a tree called Manuka I don't know how the fuck they managed that? Fucking Aussies.

This new type of penicillin seems to be working better. I did get up at 3am to go for a piss, and I took the opportunity to neck another pill, but no pain.

These ones are huge. I think that the local medical centre haves sussed me, so I now get horse tablets!

It's all quite odd, though, as when my left leg starts hurting, I am pleased that it is not my right leg hurting. Since my left leg was so fucked over that amputation was considered, I am "happy" that it is hurting more than my right leg.

I am a very odd individual, but if things continue to improve, then in two or three days time, I should be able to get out on my KTM, without it being mad hot, like it was before.

I may be odd, but today has felt really cold to me, yet my house temp is around 20 degrees C, with no heating turned on, and that should be just fine.

My experience of our "broken" NHS:

I get a phone call from my local surgery this morning. They tell me that the swab that the nurse took from my leg has shown up something and I need a different drug. The prescription is at the chemist and I can pick up the tablets this morning. I still need to go see the nurse this afternoon for a dressing change.

No way do I deny that the NHS needs more money for newer facilities and to recruit and pay staff properly. I would happily pay more tax for this rather than live in a fantasy world of denial and concentrate on reducing tax for the rich an well off.

But despite of the conservatives' best efforts, it is not broken. That's tabloid journalism. In the last three and a half years, I have had outstanding care and treatment from the NHS.

That is all!

I'll briefly reply - although Perry probably won't understand and more of the tired stuff about me being a fool means I don't visit much these days - knock yourselves out - I won't be here to read it.

Perry - penicillin was discovered in 1928 - the word is used to describe one antibiotic and also a whole class of antibiotics, some of which are preferred to treat eg. chest infections and others ulcers as you seem to have.

All of these come under the blanket term "penicillin" but are antibiotics in their own right:

amoxicillin (brand names Alphamox, Amoxil, Cilamox, Ibiamox, Fisamox)
amoxicillin/clavulonic acid (brand name: Augmentin)
ampicillin (brand names Agpen, Alphacyn, Ampicyn, Austrapen, Ibimicyn, Penamp)
benzylpenicillin (brand name BenPen)
benzathine benzylpenicillin (brand name Bicillin-LA)
dicloxacillin (brand names Dicloxsig, Distaph)
flucloxacillin (brand names Flubiclox, Flucil, Flopen, Flucil, Staphylex)
phenoxymethylpenicillin (Penicillin V) (brand names Aspecillin, Cilicaine VK, Cilicaine V, Cilopen)
piperacillin (brand name Tazopip, PiperTaz, Tazocin, Piptaz Procaine benzylpenicillin Cilicaine)

The drugs you're on - how much do they cost the NHS? And how much do those particular ones cost in other countries? Same with the dressings?

There's a good chance they cost several thousand percent more than in some other countries.

Your leg problem is time sensitive. They can't put you on a massive waiting list...if you had a heart issue, there's a good chance you might not get seen for many months. They can't do that with a manky wound.

It isn't tabloid journalism - it's what is behind what you are seeing, which is attentive care and plentiful pharmaceuticals.

My ex who had to attend purchasing meetings was shocked by how the NHS just accept costs from suppliers - a lot of the time they (NHS) are the only outlet for the products - they have more power than the suppliers but they never acted that way. But then, that is how those at the top make it.

Don't go dude, you bring a certain antipodean charm (y)

This looks awful :(

Chloramphenicol is / or was a good one . I think they have restricted the use of it in animals to keep it back for emergencies as antibiotic resistance increases.

'Kin 'ell, I tripped out just reading that list...😵‍💫

This is all new to me, but I am still on penicillin - just a different type. Apparently, after taking a swab, they can try it on different types to see what works. The first two -that did nothing - were just guesses on what "should" work, but now, I am on a type that has been shown to work.

After taking just one of these suckers, when removing the dressing to change it, the wound looks so much better - more like a wound than an open mess!

I am sure you all needed to know that.

On this call with my brother and psychoanalyst, this morning, my brother said that I should not take the same attitude that in generally have, with the "eggsperts" appointed by insurance companies. With the KTM, I am quite happy to have it (and hope to get back to riding it soon, now I am on the right drugs) but my brother said that I shouldn't be happy! I can't ride my big Ducatis as I don't want to handle the weight. My natural attitude is to count my blessings and be happy, but for insurance purposes, I should be a bitter, knurled-up, son of a bitch, denied of what I love, whereas I just make the best of it! Complicated shit, this insurance game!

And until today, this, I did not realise.

Does that make me stopid? Quite possibly, but in my (weak) defence, I have never needed to know - until now!

That may highlight a problem with the NHS.

I (like most users) have no idea what stuff that I get for free, really costs. Only people right at the top can take on the drug companies about the prices that they charge. I know that it is not simple as they have to spend a fortune on research and development. I wonder if the problem is too grizzly for anybody to want to take it on?

But, madness is everywhere! I get free prescription coz of my age, but I would be happy to pay and could afford to.

And I would gladly pay extra, if they chucked in a bit of free weed!
