Dave, I believe Davie is right in saying that the comment was meant tongue-in-cheek. It was most probably also meant in a kind of resigned sort of way, a reference to the migration of Message Board users from DSC to DuN. (I believe the term for this is pathos, but someone more educated than me may be able to assist.) The loss of Scottish and Northern English DSC members over the past year or so is something to be regretted, a fact which is acknowledged by the MT (even if they don't say so publically).

While I didn't find the comment to be particularly useful, I do not think it was meant in any nasty way.

its not just the northern guys....

I still go there to check for rideouts and stuff, but thats all really, find it quite unfriendly compavred to what it was and most of those who welcomed me seem to either post a lot less or naot at all....shame really

In my position, I renewed my membership!

I don't really post very often, I simply don't have time to post both here and there but still feel I should support the the "other site".

DuN is obviously by far and away my first choice - after all, loads of you guys are both great customers and great friends.

I really hope the situation improves over there as it's true there are lots of nice people with interesting opinions really worth listening to.

On the downside (as mentioned above) it seems there are a smal minority of "keyboard commandos" as weeian puts it, that seem to really destroy the atmosphere at times.

It almost seems as though they are doing so just for the shock value to upset other users.
Either that or they have a totally pathetic and sh1te sense of humour??!!! :jerkoff:

Thank God for Mikey keeping all of us (mostly Davie & Scottch;) ) under control.

Do you reckon he's given up on Gord? :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

I agree with Martin in principle - it does look as if a few are really making a lot of noise. Lily said it's a long story and it is. All I will say is that there has been huge provocation and until that is resolved there's little hope for the future of that club.

No wish to contradict Henry here on DuN, but I'll just say that I am confident that there is every hope that DSC will continue on in the future.
"The few that are really making a lot of noise" won't bring the Club down ... the perceived arrogance of some management team members won't ...only the majority, rank and file members can do that.

I hope you're right Loz - I was instrumental in growing the club, served on the MT, sponsored riders and a team in DD last year and have huge affection for the club and its members.

And yet, as of yesterday, I find that my posts have to pass censorship by the MT before they are deemed suitable to be allowed to be seen. I am very sad that has happened :(

The censorship issue is a thorny one, I have to agree. Leaving your posts out of the discussion for the moment, I have to say that the lack of self-censorship by some posters means that the Webteam do have to step in from time to time. They have a duty to ensure that posts that bring the Club into disrepute don't stay up on the Board. As for your posts being censored, I haven't seen any that haven't made the cut, so I cannot comment there.

Henry, disreputable is not a word I'd use to describe you - RTL2006 behaviour notwithstanding! ;)

Aye...youre one of the sensible lot! ;)
Henners? Sensible? Maybe, but I seem to remember he went on a solo exploration (AFTER getting lost with me, Screwy and Rich) at RTL06. Did we say something wrong, I never found out?

But on the serious side, I'm actually considering joining DSC next year. So don't all throw wobbers if you see me inviting yous on joint rideouts cos I'm up for having a go at getting the NE side up and running for both forums, esp. DuN. May fall flat on my face but hey, what's to lose?

I'm the guilty party for kicking this thread off and I am not going to make any comments about what is or is not happening elsewhere, but I find it sad and strange that a group of enthusiasts can get so wrapped up in personalities and internal politics that they can ruin what should be an enjoyable hobby for the majority. I am not specifically referring to Ducati (I joined DOC unaware DSC existed and only afterwards heard there had been some friction in the past for whatever reason), but I have seen the same thing with various marques, Mercedes, Jaguar,Lotus immediately spring to mind and I am sure there are a dozen more. I reckon my view on joining a club is not unique. I want to meet similar enthusiasts to "talk shop", get the craic and generally have a laugh. Lord knows there is enough doom and gloom in the world to say nothing of politics without deliberately introducing it into our leisure time. I don't think any more or less of someone from "another" club only wonder if we could ALL bury our differences and work together for what we enjoy would that not be a good thing? If all clubs acted on the intentions of the majority this type of situation would never arise. Being "British" and not wanting to make a fuss has a lot to answer for!:(

It's probably all down to cash, isn't it? DuN is free, so no need to get upset about anything, as nobody is losing any money or having it squandered. Mikey deserves, and gets, great support from all on here. Long shall it remain so. Just get out and ride!

Absolutely not! One minute you were behind me and the next you weren't. I kept going until the next set of traffic lights about 6 miles up the road then waited for you. When you didn't turn up I retraced my steps and you were gone. H

Loz

I really don't want to get into a discussion about the DSC with you here on DuN which is probably of no interest to anyone but the two of us. You have a PM instead. H

Stewart mentioned the Jaguar marque and I believe there is a common denominator between the DSC and a Jaguar OC?

Just thought id have to join this thread!

What I really meant, Henners, is that you were going so fast we couldn't keep up!!

Sorry lass - I had suddenly found a road without stone walls and went for it. If I ever have to choose between your company and going alone on a 996 you'd win every time :) :) :)

I spend quite a lot of time browsing this board, although I don't post that much. I have been browsing DuN since coming up to Raid The Lakes with the BHCN crew of the DSC (plus Henners & Loz). I met a lot of old northern friends from the DSC on RTL, and had a good craic with a bunch of great new people.

It's no secret that I'm on the DSC MT, so I won't be disrespectful of DuN members and spread any DSC woes over here. However, it saddens me to read this thread, because it's undoubtedly true, the atmosphere on the DSC forum stinks. All of it orchestrated by personal feuds and animosity.

I sincerely hope that DuN never has to deal with any of the rubbish that's going on with the DSC.

Good luck

it won't if we could just let this thread die ;)

hello Jools, nice ta see ya

OK folks I'm about to close this one down, if thats OK with everyone :)

like many here I'm also a member of the DSC and whilst I don't agree with WT policy of censorship and moderation I'm now left with little choice but to follow their lead here with an action which I don't like taking :( As i said in a thread over there consideration should have been given to the impact their rules have on other site owners, it was naive and stupid to think it wouldn't happen and hopefully me now closing this will help in any future decisions they make.

I still believe the clubs (DSC and DOC) have a place as part of why upnorth was set up was to help get stronger Ducati communities, the DSC has a role to play in that and hopefully the membership will address any issues using the methods open to them and not let any problems spill over onto other sites.
