I have at least once. It is good. depend on where you are in the country, but for me it is very convenient and good roads to get there.

Portsmouth is a hour from us, Newhaven two but it gets us closer to where we’re going in France and is half the price of the Brittany ferries crossings so looks a good option

I once didn't wake up in time. I rushed to Newhaven and got there about 10 minutes too late. So, the office sent me to Portsmouth to get a later ferry, but still under pressure! Managed to do the whole thing without stopping for petrol once! Filled up in France on the way out of wherever it was Le Havre?

Good thing was. that I shredded every speed limit in sight and never got caught! But did in France around Paris. Not speeding, but riding on the chevroned bit to beat a traffic queue. on the peri-fique thing. No fine, though. Just a mutual shrugging of shoulders as the gendarme had no English, and my French is shite!
