How odd, why not all energy companies ?

Oil and Gas companies free to charge what they like for big profits, but renewables and Nuclear can't, doesn't that just add fuel to the fire (pun intended) that government are 'in' with oil & gas companies ?

I havent paid much attention since back in the UK but when living in Sweden you had a green option from the suppliers. If
you selected that, all of your energy was more expensive. It was like a charge for wanting to be environmentally sympathetic.
This levy was supposed to be towards financing further wind farms etc.As the prices were already laughable over there at that point,
not many wanted to take the green option.

It my be similar here, where there is a different costing structure all of the way through to end user, so taxation can also be played with.

The way I understand it in the UK electricity is priced based on the most expensive generation method, Gas I believe.

Keep seeing articles about how Solar / Wind generation is so much cheaper, but in the UK (and most probably everywhere) however it's generated the consumer pays the same price. If renewables are cheaper, charge the consumer less to prove it.

Generally European energy markets are the same as UK, i.e. highest price wins.

When you say O&G companies are raping the consumers have a thought about what you are saying; if you are an oil producer you have to import gas to provide power for that oil production, import gas rates are similar to (often higher) than open market gas rates, power generation exhaust gas attracts a CO2 charge which has recently doubled (approx). So, gas producing companies are raking it in......

Yes, my argument is why 'cap' renewables and nuclear but not the others ?

And the only way to prove that renewables are 'cheaper' is to charge the consumer less.

Capping the renewables and nuclear is a bit of a misnomer - it's more paying what the cost plus profit price is rather than paying the cost of gas plus profit.

Only pure gas producers are making massive profits (for the time being)

Just spotted what my combined Gas and Electric bill was paid by Direct Debit on the 10th October, remembering prices went up on the 1st Oct (obviously this bill is from a mainly very mild November and pre the latest increase for 20 of the days) but with the £60 or whatever it is that gets taken off my overall bill was fekkin' ridiculous... :oops::oops::oops:

We had to move dad over to direct debit as he kept missing his payments on the pre paid cards thinking he'd already topped them up when he hadn't.

He's now with sse/ovo and this is what they said about the assists and dd's

You’ll receive your discount straight into your bank account as a refund 3-5 days after your Direct Debit has cleared. This means you’ll carry on paying your full Direct Debit amount. Once the Direct Debit payment has gone through, we’ll automatically refund the monthly discount amount to your bank account shortly after. If you cancel your Direct Debit, or your payment fails, there may be a delay in applying the discount to your account.

You’ll get your discount every month, even if you don’t get monthly statements. You'll see confirmation of the discount on your next statement.
