My Energy supplier has gone bust.

Feck knows where this quote came from 🤷‍♂️

iirc when BG (and perhaps BT) were first privatised wasn't there, due to the essential nature of the services they provided, some sort of structure whereby they had to price their services to the consumer on a cost plus basis, again iirc they were permitted to get no more than an 8% return on equity - I assume that has long since gone out of the window.

That would be my argument, yes they have to make a profit etc but should there be a limit on that ?
Rather than a ‘price cap’ (sic) that keeps getting raised so they keep their profits.

I’m not sure it’s ‘bashing’ them (well, not me anyway). I’ve nothing against shareholders, I just think it’s hard to take when the consumer prices are rising by so much and the companies are making such big profits.

Isn’t the argument that they are essential services so shouldn’t be profit making ?
I think shareholders should be given a discount, say 50%, based on a reasonable sized holding.
Preferential pricing to avoid any benefit in kind taxation.
I for one would gladly accept such an arrangement.

I wouldn’t say it’s not working out so well, I doubt I could have afforded private healthcare insurance that would have covered my daughters treatment.

The NHS still saves many lives.

It may well have the most funding it’s ever had but unfortunately it hasn’t grown proportionally to the demand.
I think we’d probably all agree that funding is not the only problem with the NHS, the way it’s managed is a big problem and the ‘too many chiefs not enough Indians’ culture.
Could it be ‘fixed’ by a government ?
Fuck knows. 😬
You've clearly not been to a hospital around here.... I'll get my coat.

They could swtart by knocking non essential stuff on the head
transgender clinics etc
Full immunity to compensation claims and negligence cases.
All treatment would require signing of indemnity agreements and a act of parliment preventing any form of legal action (including historical) to be taken against the NHS, Ambulance or other related services.
This saves at least £2B a year and frees up those ambulance chasers to do some real work.
