My empire of dirt...

Merry fucken Christmas eve everyone..
Im still a sweaty ball of sickness..
Managed a few hours work at home yesterday, finally got the stove wired in in it's new home, just need to get the fridge out on to the deck now so we can use the kitchen.
Today, although I feel absolutely shit, i can't just lay in bed so im gunna try and tackle some demolition.
Gunna smash out the old bathroom. Been really looking forward to this!!!!
It's sorta in the middle of the living space so removing it will create one big space and give an idea of what we really have to work with..

5.45 and ive just finished for the day.. almost.. dropped b at the bub 20 mins ago, prepped dinner and have a few more wheel barrow loads of timber to burn.
I've had the fire going for six hours solid! Amazing how much timber is in a small area..
Anyhu it's largely opened up.
We have 43m2 in this area now minus 2.4 x 3.2 for the bathroom leaves 35 ish for kitchen/dinner and living room. Pretty good i think..

Big space to work with Chiz, so load bearing walls ?

Big space to work with Chiz, so load bearing walls ?
What are they? Lol.. yea, there was a spine wall mid span running the length of the house. I've removed a section of that and will be installing a beam in its place. The beam is only spanning 3.3 mtrs and carrys nothing other than the ceiling joists/weight of the plasterboard and the roof ridge was propped off or it. It's a lightweight iron roof coming in at around 5kg per m2 plus rafters ect . No snow load here as it doesn't.. gunna put in a double 8x2

This is also why there are a few sticks of timber remaining mid span. Im gunna drop the ceilings and put ties between the rafters before I remove those! Honestly though, it's such a small structure/roof i can't see it going anywhere. I've built roofs with a larger span in the uk that were slate tiled and had no ceiling ties or propped ridge, the only detail was brackets from rafters to ridge.. I didn't like it but it passed muster ...

Talking about gherkins on another thread, I thought id post a few pics of that garden.
Looking back, i started planting it out around 10 weeks ago and some of the plants have only been in there 8 weeks.
Hard to believe..
In there is,
2 types of cucumber, 1 gherkin, 3 lettuce ( already ate 4 and replanted last week) rocket, basil, chives, red onion, a couple of strawberry plants, 1 tomato and some silverbeet. And a bunch of b's flowers.
Seen a thing online with this chick who does mad gardens where she over plants em with all sorts and they go nuts with everything competing for sunlight.
We thought we'd give it a go and it's awesome.

A few more pics of what's going on in the garden. Got ya cherry tomatoes x 8 plants. They are doing ok, not had the yeild of this time last year but it's a different variety and may kick in later in the season. Over the last month is we have been harvesting sort 20-30 a week which is enough but I want bulk to roast off and freeze!
The strawberries are making a comeback after they were devastated by a few blistering hot days. Had to cut most back to nothing and I've put shade cloth up, now most have recovered great and many are flowering so we should have another round hopefully, they were doing great and we have quite a few in the freezer for smoothies and strawberry daiquiris!
Got some corn in pots as a bit of an experiment, was going to harvest em young for baby corn but as there is only 6 im gunna let em mature, they are doing real well.
Got some lettuce and a capsicum going next to the corn and a rapunzel cherry tomato.
Over the fence in the neighbors garden that we use we have some cabbage, broccoli, silverbeet, a fuck ton of red onions, a fuck ton of kumara ( sweet potatoes) and spaghetti squash. The spaghetti squash has 6 massive fruit on it, we talking much bigger than a rugby ball! And some smaller ones coming through.
The kumara is the creeping vine in the left of the garden, this year we planted about a 3rd more than last year coz I love the stuff and they last months in the right storage..
That's all...
