mototech mag - interview with Prezioso

The latest issue of Mototech mag has a good interview with Filippo Prezioso, Director General of Ducati Corse and an engineer rather than the usual marketing staff that Ducati allow to be interviewed these days
He explains why the 800 DD16 is like it is, advantages of the desmo system over coil/air sprung valves and how the final design/shape was arrived at, worth a read if you are interested in Moto gp technology.

Same issue also has the last part of Damien Harty's series on motorcycle dynamics and covers braking forces which might answer some of the questions raised a few weeks ago re Pedrosa's braking.

Latest issue of Motorcycle Racer mag has an article on homologation for WSB, they question whether Ducati can make the required number of 1098R's to be able to race the bike. The numbers needed have increased and Ducati must make 250 before season starts, 1000 by June of this year and 3000 before 2010. they predict companies like Ducati won't be able to make small volume super spec bikes in the future and will need to race on lower spec bikes to hit the homolgation targets. Knowing the link between Ducati and WSB organisers they'll probably just get the rules bent to suit them again though :cynical smilie:

Honda got the rules bent to stuff Triumph originally as the triple cylinder Trident ran riot and won most races which didn't bode well for the newly introduced CB750. According to the books I've read Honda were very underhand, alledgedly.

Bike mag ran a 'brief' couple of pages with the brakes developers and basically said the 1098 brakes were currently best performing most optimum configuration (monobloc?), four pots are more than enough for anyone, brakes system were massively under maintained on road bikes, and...brakes were the most powerful piece of the motorcycle.
