Moto GP tomorrow

Just watched the paupers highlights on ITV4 - weren't the trophy's a bit crap 🏆 🤷‍♂️

Did anyone ever go to the Bol d'Or when it was at the Paul Ricard in the South of France in the '80s?

That was a fooking riot! A few of us used to go and camp there - by the Mulsanne Straight. I never slept, but would spend the night on the roof of the building above the pits. We would spend about a week camping near the sea somewhere in the South and then go to the race. The French always told us that the tolls were free on the way North after the race. I think that may of been bullshit! The gig seemed to be that everyone would crowd round the toll until a sucker paid and the barrier would go up. Then as many as possible would blast through before the barrier closed!

There was a year when Honda Britain had a go with Ron Haslem, Joey Dunlop, and one other - Asa Moyce? That's a guess as I haven't bothered look it up!

I think they withdrew with a breakdown.

I remember doing it on my Ducati Darmah, when the sprag clutch on the starter broke, so I had to get a push to bump start it with my weight on the rear wheel as it was high compression and the rear wheel would not turn without weight on it. After zero sleep we would ride all the way to some port (Dunkirk?) and get a night ferry back to the UK. And then ride home to near Swindon from Portsmouth (?) after zero sleep in two days. That was well dodgy! And that was after a diet of beer and wine for a couple of days!

I think that the Bol may bow be back at the Paul Ricard after they moved it away.

The French know how to have a good time, as well as being pretty good at rioting!
I "think" that it was 1985, but I thought that it was earlier. More like '82 or '83!.

At one of them, I got a pine needle stuck in my throat during a wine swilling session and it was really irritating me. I went to one of the medical centres dotted around and they call me an ambulance that took me to the main medical place in the pit area. So I am lying there ready to get sorted out and around me are a couple of racers who have crashed during the night. There was a bit of blood and gore going on! Anyway, they sorted me out in a jiffy and just chucked me out. I didn't know where the fook I was, and then learnt that I was in the pit and paddock area, and could just wander about looking into the pits. I had no pass, but never got sussed!

I believe adding the sprint is similar to the WSBK format. Was quite enjoyable eventhough we had our reservations. This will be an interesting season, the Aprilia and KTM teams are going to definitely give the Ducati teams a run for their money. 2022 was the year for Ducati, not sure what Yamaha and Honda are going to do to catch their competitors.

Shame about Marquez, I believe his incident with Olivera had everything to do with him having to ride that Honda above it's limits to stay with the front group. Like him or not he's a skilled rider, one of the best, but that's just my opinion.
