Rushed around, changed cans, clutch cover. Fitted front discs and. pads rear disc and pads. Sent her indoors away with wheels to get new rear tyre fitted and new valve put in front wheel. Put it all back together again and made my appointment by 11.30. Only to get me bike tested by some yokel. He tested brakes with spring balance and piece of rope. But he would'nt test it with open clutch cover and termis. What a waste of f@cking time!!

It did pass. Then spent most of the afternoon refitting termis clutch cover etc.

will check on monday about clutch cover as i have access to bike mot testing guide but i do not think it is a testable item

interesting, never thought of the clutch cover needded for MOT

Would'nt pass it with an open cover. Something to do with moving parts, feet getting caught up. Mine are size 11, some chance. But the brakes were sh@t due to new discs pads etc. Having done less than 10 miles they were absolute cr@p But are the brakes really important?

sounds about right, ive no cover at all at the mo, a bit disconcerting when putting foot up ont peg but soon forget about it (prolly when it'll ave me toes off!:comp2: )

I would appreciate that. Would'nt have thought clutch cover came into it. It's to late now but it might give me a bit of leverage next time.

My ST4S had a completely open clutch cover on it. Went through 2 MOT's in 2004 and 2005 with no problems. See attached picture.

I don't see the problem. Some of these guys are just jobsworth's.

DVLA database has even got frame no f@cked up It should start ZDMS*
DVLA have DMS1* It's all turned a bit of a farce.

mine just passed MOT with the arrow race cans stamped 'not for road use', but had to stick a reflector on the back...

mine has passed every mot, at several different garages over the years, with arrow cans with no probs at all - and they ain't for road use either.

Ranald, you can check on Mot requirements here
Brakes only have to be something like 25% efficient. So even with new pads all round they shouldn't be problem and I've ridden some old bikes in the past with utterly abysmal brakes and they always passed.
The clutch cover should not be failure point unless the toe of your boot can touch the moving parts.
If the exhaust is marked :Not for Road Use" or "Track Use Only" it should fail. If it's not marked it's up to the discretion of the tester.
Obviously your tester has none.

Thank's Derek, I don't think I'll be going back there next year.
