Maglites - great but....

Back on topic with the maglite truncheon, I worked with a guy who had the same idea but he said that he wrapped the end of the maglite with duct tape to stop the batteries falling out after the first impact, because hitting someone with an alloy tube isn't going to give the desired effect!

The ends are screw in so should stay in place even after repeated bashings .

7 years ago we were burgled not long after moving in and prior to fitting much in the way of security. We were out and a young man used a crowbar to smash his way in . I was at the time 53 and no longer in my prime and no matter how absolutely fucking furious I was, me with a maglite against a younger, fitter bloke with a crowbar and who knows what else, possibly off his face on drugs was probably not going to have a happy ending. Stopping a crime being committed is better than dealing with the consequences.

Agreed. I have floodlights and 3 high res and very visible camera's with their own lights too, so they film in full 4K even at night ;) I have anti snap, anti-pick locks - but I do have glass of course, albeit double glazed which is always the weak point. The maglite is a final defence in case anyone gets in.

We have multiple cameras, lights, an alarm, and 2 noisy dogs but also fitted to every window some film that holds shattered glass together and in position. The idea being it delays entry to the house and either the burglar gets spooked by the alarm going off while he can't get in or if we are home we call the police.
I too have a maglite just in case as I suspect my ferocious sounding dogs have barks that are worse than their bites.

My builder mate was told by the cop attending his burgled home scene,( it was a home invasion) keep a handsaw where you can get to it. They will never be able to take it off you and it will do some damage.
I dont know how you find the nerve to actually get one out and start swinging, having not been in that position before but in a home invasion scenario, you have the absolute right to defend yourself.
