Latest : Black Isle Weekend Trip cancelled

Desmodromically delirious
:( I've just spoken to Scottch and we've decided to cancel the Black Isle trip due to the uncertainty around fuel supplies. It looks like we'd be spending the weekend worrying about running out of fuel instead of enjoying ourselves riding about the Highlands. Sorry to disappoint, though we'll try to re-schedule this trip later in the year.

Oh well, World Superbikes on the telly will have to do instead....

Considering all the panic buying of fuel that's been going on (and it will only get worse at the weekend I imagine) I think this is a very wise decision, if very, very dissappointing for those who had planned on going.

apart from that it is absolutely chucking it down here at the moment too:(

Just to be perverse, stopped raining here (only started yesterday late pm) and visibility is improving as morning goes on.
Met office now predicting sunshine both today and tomorrow.:(

blooming typical isn't it!! Anyway hope you get out and about for a run today despite the disappointment Stuart:)

Bugger! Bugger! Bugger! :(

The rain is off and the roads are drying and forecast drier for the North. I was all set to go and wasn't gonna let a gallon or so of petrol worry me.
But then I can get 200 miles to a tankful:D

I taxed the bike at the start of March and with this crap weather we have mainly had I haven't even managed to put a 1000 miles on it yet

Maybe the next run?

Yep, bit of a disappointment all round. The weather is looking better here as well. Even more annoying for me as I was ill last weekend and missed the run out from Dundee :(

I can't believe the panic buying of fuel. I also can't believe how little reserve the UK seems to exist on, and that they didn't learn any lessons from the fuel blockades/protests. Imagine if Grangemouth was suddenly been put out of action for a month or more... it would be martial law!

The silly thing is that fuel supplies will last well into and through May - it just needs re-routed via down south till the Grangemouth plant starts production again. It's simply the panic buying that's causing the shortage but I guess that's only human nature.... no-one wants to be left stranded. I'm in the very fortunate position of not needing to use the car (or bike) at all during the week... I've probably been sitting with half a tank for a month now.

The strike orgnisers will be pretty pleased though - why strike if it's not going to have an impact, put pressure on the opposition and hopefully achieve what they set out to do?

Just managed to get online and read these posts.
I spent the whole night rebuilding my Imola and you guys decide not to turn up!!! ;)

The fuel situation seems not to be as bad as the press are making out, Tescos certainly had plenty of the stuff and there weren't masses of queues.

We will have to do this again later in the year maybe. :)

Just back home from Dewsbury via Grangemouth.

Sorry for the disappointment guys, but I think cancelling the trip was the most prudent step we could've made given the uncertainty over the availability of fuel with the information that was at hand last night / this morning

We will have to do this again later in the year maybe. :)

Absolutely! Without a doubt! Ed / Stewart, can you please check your calendars and let me know when you guys have a free weekend?

Shame you are missing out guys. I think you have made the right decision though. If the run is a bit later in the year there may be a few more attendees! When I found somewhere to get fuel yesterday (most local places limiting customers to £10 cash sales only), I Paid £1.25 for a litre of diesel-(disgusted).
I do about 800 miles per week, am just wondering how long my company (and others) will allow me to do the miles I do.

A bit frustrating for a new club to have its first two runs cancelled. Maybe we've been given the voodoo treatment by the national clus for having the audacity to start a new club ? Never mind, boys and girls, Blasto Numero Uno di Scozia will happen one day, and it'll be a good one, wherever we end up going. Now, off to the shed to see if I can get the GT to run on some old cooking oil I've got.....:stir:

Without sounding like a penny pincher, I think paying £2.00+ per litre as has been reported is a major consideration also. There is no way
I am going to line the pockets of these thieving @@@@@@@s!

i blame the media for the shortage ! they caused the panic

When I returned to Grangemouth this morning, the camera crews were out in force with their outside broadcast units scattered about the place.

And no queues or rationing to be found.

No queues in Dundee today either, just been for a blast up the coast to Stonehaven and even the prices look normal (£1.06 for unleaded). Must be the city folk panicking ;)

rationing in a few stations I passed in Hamilton this afternoon - £15 per customer! bloody media!!!

Shame you are missing out guys. I think you have made the right decision though. If the run is a bit later in the year there may be a few more attendees!

Same sentiments - if we get a summer that is - or maybe more realisticaly if the rain gets warmer. :D

Due to the dispute at Grangemouth Plant, I was instructed in the early hrs of this morning to hit the stop button as it were on our Platform Process Facilities.......so now sitting around wondering what to do with ourselves until we get the green light to start exporting again......

Sorry to hear you cancelled your trip.......

Mark...

Well guy's on arran the petrol is always 15p more than the mainland. As for diesel well £1.34/ltr last week!!! nothing to do with a fuel shortage just the way it is here!!!

I am appalled by what is going on. The media are not entirely without blame. Like Stewart, I use oil to fire the central heating (basically Kerosine) and instead of the £360 I paid for 1000ltrs last year, I will now have to pay nigh on £600 for the stuff!!!!
I don't know where this is going or what end we will see, but living in the middle of nowwhere is fast becoming very difficult. There have also been two occasions here on the Black Isle of people having their heating oil nicked. This whole thing just causes mayhem, mistrust and anger. Why does it have to be this way when in other countries (like Kuwait for example) you can fill up a LR discovery for the equivalent of £4!!!!
As for the trip being cancelled, I was furious - not with any of you guys, but with the current situation. The weather Saturday pm, although windy, was lovely. I went for a shake-down run on the Imola in beautiful sunshine, and yesterday morning was still as you like and cloudless!!
Ho hum!! :(

Lets see how the season pans out, I will be getting booked up soon so lets sort something out soon eh.

...Very Fcuked off!!!!

went out for a wee bumble y/day and 2 of the 3 petrol sations in castle douglas were closed and the other one only had superduper unleaded at 121.9p ltr
