Lack of Ducati's at trackdays.

Why is this so? Are inline 4's so much more effective on track? Or are Ducati's too expensive/unreliable to thrash about?

Surely they are pure bred race machines, they must be good on track?

Been at Cadwell 5 times this year and other than the Ducati only day (which ended up being opened to non ducati's due to poor entry numbers) I only ever see one or 2 in the paddock.

Or is it a "type of owner" kind of thing?

Main reason i ask is I'm considering another Ducati as a track only machine, but everyone else keeps saying buy a jap 4....

Probably as much to do with the overall proportion of Ducatis versus all other bike types. That and the fact that many owners 'cosset' their machines?

You say "cosset", I say "waste".

I think in 5 meetings (excluding the ducati special day" I've seen seen a couple of 1100's, a couple of 1098s and the odd 916. Only once a Panigale and a Desmosedici but neither went on track.

Pretty impressed with how good the S4 is on track, love the power delivery. Nothing in it on the straights with my mates 636.

I only felt my ducatis have made sense on track!!
Don't know how anyone could own any of the superbike range and others without ever taking it on track!
I don't if its a north / south difference but at Knockhill track sessions there is always a few ducatis out thumping around!
I've always preferred twins to fours!
I'd get a track Ducati phatty!

Phatty, you should really think about an Aprilia RSV
They do everything the 998s' do, have all the same bits
and are a fraction of the price.
Certainly as a track bike. :)

Going round and round and round in circles is a waste of a decent bike and precious time. See the world mate.

That's why jap crap exists. They fill a need :)

circles

Right, the guy was asking about a track bike and we offered advice

And mr. jocko rocko, what you said, try telling that to Dani Pedrosa :)

Cosset / waste!

It's all a matter of opinion, I like sport bikes but have no interest in trackdays, regardless of the brand of machine.
You'll see more Jap bikes at trackdays because they're less exclusive, typically cheaper to purchase, maintain and upgrade but yes, Ducatis are very track focused machines and perform well because the supersport machines are designed around performance and handling.
They are, undeniably, expensive compared to like age and condition machines from the Jap 4 and most owners buy them to enjoy in their own way. In the main that means cossetting by your own ideals.
If you enjoy tearing round a track on yours then thats great and theres no reason to not get a track only Ducati if it suits.
Most people will tell you, get a jap four because of the reasons above, they're plentiful and cheap.

think repair costs might come in to it for some, a lot cheaper and more plentiful parts for jap crap than ducati's

Track use is a waste of a decent bike? I'd say the complete opposite, and that a supersports is a complete waste of time on the public roads. I certainly wouldn't want to do big miles on one, let alone as a daily commuter. Each to their own...I still think far to many people buy the wrong bike for what they're going to use it for. Anyway, that's going sligtly OT.

Thanks molenz, would love an RSV, or a Tuono. They've always been on the radar for a Monster replacement. Never actually tried one but love the look of them and they have some trick bits on the Factory R models. The older models are cheap too.

Would love a 748R but can't help thinking they'd be a fortune to repair if the engine went. The newer stuff is way out of my budget. Anyone fancy buying me an 848 track bike?

cool man,

Keep your ducati for the road, as you say Aprilia is a bit cheaper, and if you have a spill, not so much brick lost

you will get a really good rsv for two grand (as if i have that) the ducati equilivant will cost you at least 5 grand to get started

Sorry what i'm saying is use the aprilia for the track

good luck :)
