Knockhill trackevening

I've just read dsreed's thread about Croft...now I'm feeling sick too!

Right...I'm deadly serious about wanting to learn, I'm also deadly serious about not wanting to wreck my pride and joy!

I've been talking about wanting a second bike for a while now, but always thought it would be another pride and joy. But...what if my second bike was a bike soley for the track?

I have the money for a track bike...in fact the more I think about it, the more I like this idea.

Any tips folks? Or a nice little track bike for sale?
 
Stop it. I dont have the money for a track bike or i'd never have mine out there. I'm really worried about giving myself a large repair bill. :( :eek:

Contact andyb, either on here or the DSC, he is selling a vfr 400, in HMPLANT colours and looks the nuts, it would be ideal for the track, in fact it is a track bike already !
 
im gonna do my first track day soon, if i really like it i may consider a track bike, the first one tho will be steady away on the 996. some tracks will hire you a bike too. NC30 Hondas were always the track bike have, dunno if still the case :thumbs:
 
Can you imagine Niall on a NC30!!! Being 8ft tall he's gonna have to find some kind of hooks to put his knees over to keep his feet off the ground! ;)

Brilliant bike though. I had to sell mine to move up here!! :mad:

In all seriousness...the NC30. I can't do anything about my height...if I really worried about what I looked like then I certainly wouldn't be riding a Monster...like that was ever going to stop me having the bike I always wanted!

I've got my heart well and truly set on trying to buy a bike for the track now...so I'm needing your suggestions and advice please :thumbs:

I've just been reading about the NC30...sounds brilliant, but...is it really that small? I mean, small enough to make riding it really difficult for an eight footer? :p
 
'bout same size an RGV250, if that helps :o that would also be superb track bike (if you u ok with 2 stroke, cheap as chips nowadays)
 
I was surprised (pleasantly) by the size of the NC, it may be small, but you'd be surprised just how well it fits (well my 6ft frame anyway). Not sure about your 9 ft size though!
I never had mine long enough to track it but on my favourite roads down south it was an amazing little ride. Rev the nuts of the thing and you are rewarded with that amazing 'double Ducati' sound yowling from the exhaust. If you get one put a set of Dunlop GPR70 tyres - they were designed for the Asia-Pacific race series and are brilliant.
You can pick one of these up for £1000 - that is how much I spent on mine and I got a real goodn - totally original and unmolested!

so, eonan's growed up by two feet in about ten posts and you moved to Scotland but had to sell a bike worth only :D a grand to get there? you sure you've not taken on board too much of that amber nectar they make up there.....:)

Always wondered how they do it and allthough i'd be worried and pretty slow

nial, if you go to get one take someone with you,most have been shagged more times than the average prostitute and can suffer accordingly.cant think of anything in particular to look for but i do know that if the engines been boiled they can be expensive to repair

I also used to have three children - one went to Huntingdon Lifesciences for medical experiments, The 911 went aswell as the NC. Shame really!!! ;) :eek:

there may just be three shaking in the corner now. I'd love to do one but terrified I get in the way or dump the bike so this may be the time to get out and conquer the fear.
Maybe we could have a communal fearties track bike???

Every time I think about it my stomach does a lurch so I think Tam may be right with a communal :toilet: and not just for hiding in either!
 
Honestly folks, please-please-please, don't get too overly concerned about doing a trackday. :)

You'll have a great time and we'll keep the pace to a minimum.
Trust me, you'll have a fantastic time.

I've seen it before, folks get so uptight and worked up before going, then after 10 minutes they are having the time of their life!:) :cool:

9ft Jolly green giants, wursels and the like need not apply!!! :D

There seems to be an inadvertant communal winding eachother up session going on here. Please stop worrying yourselves about it. I know I'm not organising it and am really just another punter, I hate the thought of you all getting seriously worried about trashing your bikes - it ain't gonna happen!

Hi Martin,

Watching this discussion with interest as I have never done a track day and have a healthy fear of parting company with a bike at any speed never mind financial cost.
Like the others part of me wants to try it as it would improve my confidence on the road.
In addition to this I have a 160+ mile trip to get to Knockhill and more of a concern is the 160+ miles back at the end. (or not if I binned it!) :eek:
What is the usual start time of the mid week sessions?

We get there for 5.30pm to get signed on and get our briefing.

We're then on track from 6pm until 8pm, open track.

You'll be ready to leave anytime after that!
