Hey yoal!
Shared some pics on another thread and some seemed interested so I thought I'd start a thread bout my worktop mission!
Had to build my kitchen on the cheap ( as I don't own the place nor do I have money!).
So I made the kitchen out of filling cabinets and lockers.
Worktops over hereare expensive even for shit and my kitchen is a bit odd in the depth of tops I require .. anyhu...
I decided I wanted to make em out of live edge slabs, a few weeks later I chanced upon a chap that had 10 oak slabs in his garage ( taken from a tree he felled in his garden 7 years ago) he was sick of looking at em and them taking up space so I gave him A cheeky bid on the lot.
He accepted and the fun started!
It's far from pristine European oak but I like its character and it's well seasoned so hopefully stable...
Getting em home was heavy work, they average about 2400 x700 x75mm and maybe 60 kg a piece...
obviously we had a trailer but loading and unloading sucked as ive 2 bung shoulders and b has a bad back ! But we made it happen..
They take up alot of space to store so I wanted shot of most of em fast as. This was no problem, sold 5 within a few weeks and had 5 left for free!

That was the first slab I got. Was chatting to a mate at the pub and told him I was after some slabs, he said he had one at work that he got of his dad. The guy he was working for had gone bust and it needed moving asap so I told him to go get it, bring it to mine and I'll talk to his dad about the price later.
After a chat with his dad I found out he had 9 more and a deal was struck.
The first one had had some work done on it but the rest had just been milled into slabs and stored...

I had shit loads on so it took me a feew months before I collected the other 9 and another month of fucking about trying to work out the best way to do this thing.
Looked at lots of YouTube stuff and had some idea of what I wanted to achieve and how to do it (ish)


I started this thread coz I'm bored but now I'm bored with this thread!!!! So I'll post a pic of the nearly finished thing and fill in the beforehand pics and garb later.. then hopefully a fully finished pic or 2!!!

Personally very glad you are contributing mate it’s good to see you appearing again as a lot of people on here know you and think about you and hope life is working out, this is one of the great benefits of the internet as you are the same as someone 20 miles away as most on here don’t meet each other we just chat and banter so no matter where you are you are as relevant and involved as everyone else

It’s good to hear your stories mate keep them coming but I don’t want to see shot animals so maybe a warning for this precious one
