Is it still summer?
Well I've got the bug for a new motor, had a look at one at the weekend and spoke to the dealer yesterday and I was going for a test drive at the weekend if I could find an hour to get over there.

So I've jiggled my weekend slightly so I get to have a proper ganders and a blast on the road to see if it's what I want, phone him back today and his colleague has gone and sold the damn thing today :mad:

He claims to be getting another one in in the next few weeks, but was unsure about the spec etc, so back to surfing autotrader :hissy:
 
Current choice is a Nissan 350Z and I'd dropped onto a nice one with low miles and one lady owner going through a divorce so price was good too :(

350 zee, that was my last years choice Jon, it needs to be a Dodge Magnum hemi for this year and you might get a mountain bike in the back of that :)
 
Dodge Magnum! Michael you been looking at the same cars as me! Don't normally like american cars as such but being a family man now etc I have taken quite a liking to the Magnum. Was supposed to go look at one last summer but never got round to it. Big comfy and fast.

Worked over there last year Martin and could never get one off Hertz :( You never saw them discounted either. was after a SRT8 hemi, 425 BHP, nice about 39K US and the Chrysler 300 is about the same in £'s here now :(

Corners? No probably not too good at them, not really what its built for! I like them 350z and a mate had one for a while an loved it. Used to have a twin Turbo 300zx in the early 90s and nothing ever went wrong with it, was a superb car. Very advanced in its day with rear wheel steering etc. Quicker in a straight line than the 350z but would probably now be trounced in the twisty by its younger relative. I envy you for looking at sporty cars, my subscription to Evo magazine etc has now been cancelled and I find myself reading magazines for dads who have to begrudgingly buy boring cars that fit screaming critters and prams etc in. For the first time in my life my girlfriend has a say in which car I buy. Go buy your sports car Jon and treasure the moment! :)
 
I've had a few sporty cars, nothing into the supercar category (not yet anyway - roll on Euro Millions :D )

Quite into my Type-R's stick to the road like a sticky thing, had a few now, never really been into turbo charged motors (unless it's German and has the engine well behind the back wheels)

Plus I don't technically need a practical car, so why not? I/we're hoping to sort a van for the bikes too, so that's the practical/shift anything option

Just need to find another one for the money I want to pay...
 
First saw the Magnum a year or more ago in Evo magazine and they quoted a really low price which got me all excited. However when the first cars came in they more a good bit more here in £ than they were in the states in $ which put me off a bit. There was one for sale on Autotrader a few weeks ago which got me thinking again. My girlfriends now got an obsession with me buying a car with 7 seats which is daft as we only have the 2 kiddies. I was not allowed to get the Subaru Legacy (estate) 3.0R that I had set my heart on. She wants a damn MPV type thing! Wonder what she would have to say if I turned up in a Magnum. Could stick a couple of cushions in the boot and call it a 7 seater?
 
Jon get what you want! I always did before the kiddies came along! I got an Evo6 when they first came out and bought that on a whim, actually went to look at a Skyline and ended up signing on the dotted line for the Evo there and then. Cost me a fortune, depreciated like mad, spent loads on clutches, tyres fuel etc. But what a hoot. If I took it out up to Hartside etc it would empty a full tank of super unleaded in 130 miles. Would easily keep up with or beat well ridden sports bikes on most of those roads. Was a vulgar ugly monstrosity really but I have so many happy memories of the antics in that car I would do it all again tomorrow if I could.

As my mate always says 'lifes to short to drive @@@@ cars!' He has plenty of cash and no commitments though.

Martin, I nearly bought a 6 quite some time ago, mate had one and he did 3000 miles in 2 years in the thing due to working abroad, I could of had it for a steal but the insurance company weren't too keen being an import, so had to say no, I did drive it a few times and it was deceivingly quick, personally I think it's the best looking of the current Evo's... but have you seen the Evo X? :eek:
 
No not seen the Evo X yet, I am too busy looking at this months 'What miserable family car' ! (its available by special order) Yeah the 6 was the best looking, it certainly looked more purposeful than those that followed. Mine was an import and was awkward to insure. Got mine at the end of 1999 so I was 33 years old and still paid about £2k to insure it. Understandable though as I did indeed write it off! You have mentioned Porsche in a roundabout way a couple of times now? Do you not fancy a nice 993? I still hanker after one even now and they havent made it for 10 years. I always regret not buying the mint 964 RS I looked at a few years ago, especially as they are now asking £10k more for the same cars.
 
I always promised myself a 911 or variant by the time I was 30, but the years have drifted past and I still haven't got one yet, I know 3 mates who have them and part of me says for what I am going to pay for a 350 I could get a 911 etc etc albeit older and high mileage, but porkers seem to be pretty reliable.

Sooner or later I'll have one and it will be a good one so got to save some big pennies for that
 
we have just changed our peugeot 307 1.4 petrol for a Honda Civic 1.6 vtec sport handles well, goes quite well and cheaper to insure than type R :cool:

Jon, get the porker. If you don't you'll regret it.

I've never been excited about any car I've owned since my very first one - a Datsun 260Z. I'd love to get a porsche now but money and kids means no. MartinH is right, do it now while you can and when your circumstances change at least you've had one.
 
Can't afford (well I could I suppose) or honestly warrant a porker at the moment... too many things going on in my little old life that need paying for before I commit that kind of money.

Anyway a deal has been done, just waiting for the damn insurance company to come back to me so I can sort a cover note.... :banghead:
