How many Gaelic speakers are there?

...It's a small world huh!

Well I've just completed a 410 mile journey from home via a short meeting in Edinburgh, all of it accompanied by my collection of Runrig CDs. I love to listen to the Gaelic songs even though I don't understand what they are singing about.
Mark lent his copy of 'Year of the Flood' concert August '07 in Drumnadrocht. I was there and it was amazing. To relive it once again was just as amazing. And yes Stuart, Loch Lomond was the last track played and was just brilliant.
I also love An Dealachadh and Sona, great songs!

I have friends in Ullapool who speak 'the Gaelic' as they refer to it.

I used to learn Gaelic just for fun but lost track of it cos spanish took up so much time. No still a bit but not enough which is a shame because I planned a trip to Skye and a bit of Gaelic would come in handy.

I remember when I was younger, camping in Abersoch we would go into the shops and the locals would switch from speaking English to Welsh when they realised we were English so do that do that in the Gaelic speaking parts of Scotland?

Personally I'm of Viking blood and all the Saxons and Gaelics can B*gger off. Only joking. Each to their own. Variety is the spice of life. We'll all be speaking Arabic soon anyways.
