Hodgson blames Bayliss

“I’m currently in a position that I feel very uncomfortable with. I haven’t experienced it for over ten years. I am unemployed.

“My career plans took an unsuspected turn when I was told by Ducati Corse that they would not be requiring my services for the 2007 World Superbike campaign.

“It appears that Troy Bayliss didn’t want to be put under pressure by having a competitive team–mate and Ducati have bowed to his demands. This has left me as the longest–serving Ducati rider facing the prospect of changing brands for the first time in eight years.

“I’ve got a few options that we are currently working on. I suppose that in itself is a motivational prospect.

“I honestly believe that I’ve got another World Superbike Championship title in me. While the offer for the Rizla Suzuki ride in the British Superbike Championship was difficult to turn down, I honestly believe (and hope) that it was the right decision.

“I hope to have some positive news next week and I can ensure you that you will be the first to know.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your loyal support and wish you a merry Christmas and prosperous new year.”

Hodgson'll get a ride Martyn - probably Yamaha in WSB.

Ian - decided to get on with the other aspects of my life and have really enjoyed doing that :)

Awwwww......boohoo to Neil......Im pretty sure he'll not be looking at the Safeway Saver Christmas turkeys this year! ;) ;)

And who said you weren't a bad influence on here like? Eh? :D

Hmmmm... Neil's clearly a good rider but went to AMA more for the cash I'm guessing than anything else.

Lets be perfectly frank here he's no Bayliss, he good but not that good and if the current WSB champ doesn't want Hodgson then so be it, he's not exactly had offers dropping on the doormat has he?

Look at Xaus on his day he's unstoppable but where's he now? paying for his own ride this year in WSB hoping to get noticed...

Times and riders have moved on, the cross over between WSB/BSB and MotoGP now exists look at Barros back and to, Biaggi another example, let alone Troy, Colin, Haga, Walker, Xaus, Haslam also.

I hope Neil comes back to either WSB or BSB and proves a point like Lavilla did :D

He's certainly up there with Bayliss and Edwards as a rider - he proved that in 2002 coming 3rd on a 996R. Bayliss admits he's up against it in 2007 with basically a FO6 so to have a strong team mate would possibly have given Ducati a better chance of the title, as it stands Bayliss only has to have a bad fall, miss some rounds, and there's no way Lanzi will bring the title home - perhaps Ducati couldn't afford Hodgson after meeting Bayliss's pay cheque

And the team probably can't afford Bayliss and an ex world champion like Hodgson ( or Toseland last year ). Lanzi will be cheaper than either of those I would think.

Cheers Berto and Ian :)

Ian - like your signature about quitters. Just a thought ... if winners never quit and quitters never win, what does that make those of us who never quit but never win ???!? ;)

I think Hodgson would be a very real contender. He is a super smooth and very precise rider.

People think the AMA bike is the same as the WSB bike, it's just not true. The AMA bike is severly limited in it's ability to be tuned thanks to the rules.

Hodgy was riding a bike that had essentially a stock bottom end on the motor and different heads to the F06. He still brought it home regularly in the top 5 and had a couple of podiums.

He must have worked tirelessly to get the thing set up. I bet his ability to set up a Ducati will be awesome now. Plus I think on a 999F06 he would have been of superb support to Troy.

I for one, had my fingers crossed he came back to the WSB paddock, that duo would have been a significant force. Honestly, far more than Lanzi but I will reserve my judgement to see if the new fitter Lanzi comes up with the goods.

The very best of luck to Neil, I would love to see him on the F08.

Mart:D
