This photograph was taken in 1941. Compliance was mandated by law. Non-compliance was punishable by law. Children were required to salute the flag of the country.

Name the country.

Did the flag in question feature stars and stripes?
Called the Bellamy salute. In 1892 Bellamy wrote the Oath of Allegiance and by law this had to be said on every school day. Hand on heart, progressing into what I will call a Roman salute. This was law 1892 until 1942, wonder why they stopped using it.

Since 1776 only four countries in the world have mandated that their citizens or a particular group of their citizens must use the salute or face legal censure.
1. USA
2. Germany
3. Italy
4. Spain

What did 2, 3 and 4 have in common?

They've all won the FIFA World Cup.

They stopped legally enforcing it in the USA once the Communists got a chokehold on Education.

The Oath of Allegiance was still common practice in US schools during the 60s but was certainly on its way out.

Great driving roads?

Immigrants - that is most of the US population.
Incorrect. The US was created by settlers, from untamed wilderness (and uncivilised savages) who then created the societies they wished to live in and ultimately the State and Federal systems that has existed until now.

Immigrants differ from settlers in numerous, important ways. For one, they enter a country already settled and either join the societies that already exist or, as we have seen, seek to destroy those societies in order to recreate the shitholes they left.

If you cannot tell the difference between the two categories of newcomer, I really don't know what to say to you.

So Chris was right after all!

You could argue, on that front, that indigenous 'Merkans have morphed into immigrants, joining parts of the' Merkan society by building casinos but ultimately trying to turn it back to the pre-settlement era (which may, or may not have been) of a shithole 🤔

I have no access to LSD so no, I could not argue that.

1892 to 1942 - the available legal censure for non-compliance with the Oath of Allegiance.

Punishments for Students
  • Expulsion and Suspension: Refusal to perform the pledge and its accompanying salute (historically the Bellamy salute) was legally classified as "insubordination." Students were routinely expelled or suspended from public schools.
  • Classification as Delinquents: Because expelled students were no longer in school, state authorities often classified them as unlawfully absent or "habitually truant." This allowed courts to declare the children legally delinquent.
  • Reform School Institutionalisation: Once declared delinquent by a juvenile court, children could be legally removed from their homes and sent to state reformatories or parental detention schools.

Legal Penalties for Parents
  • Criminal Fines: Under state compulsory attendance laws, parents were legally required to keep their children in school. When a child was expelled for refusing the oath, the parents were prosecuted for violating truancy laws and faced steep financial fines.
  • Imprisonment: Parents who refused to pay the truancy fines or continued to back their children's non-compliance faced jail time for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
  • Loss of Parental Rights: In severe cases, the state attempted to permanently remove children from their parents' custody on the grounds of parental neglect or unlawful non-compliance with state education mandates.
