I've seen them live 9 times and the best gig i saw of there's was at the Mayflower Theater Southampton can't remember what year but it must of been late 80s, we took our mate all paid for by us as he had just got out of prison, he's gone now bless him!! :) What a gig, it was so good it got a mention by Steve Wright on the BBC.
They had like a massive round screen behind them showing stars going by like we were in a space ship!! I didn't take any acid i was stoned out of my head. You didn't need acid is was that good, they also had a big glitter ball that they were firing lights onto it and it was like laser beams, wild.
After that gig we all left, there was 6 of us and we all walked along not saying anything, we were all trying to let it sink in, then Tony said well that was good and we all just laughed.
First time i saw them was in 1985 at Top Rank(all gone now.) That was when they had two walls of speakers each side of the stage, it was fucking loud, i blew my right ear drum, when we left my mate noticed blood coming out of my ear, worth it!!
I'm slightly deaf in it now but i don't mind, the one i went to on acid and i only did once was down at Bournemouth, mental. People don't realise how much of an influence they had on music.
Formed in the year of my birth 1969 then the Pink Fairies in 1970, they all new each other, that's the way it was in those day's, I saw the Fairies at Finsbury Park at the Acid Daze gig in 1987,fucking great that was.
There still going now with one origanal member Dave Brock and on occasion Nick Tuner but not for me i saw them imo when they were at there best, bit like Glastonbury
when it was about the music and not dickheads spewing political shit!!
Anyway lots of great memories, this is my little tribute to one of the greatest bands ever, imo.(y)

Lemmy got his band title from the track Motorhed by Hawkwind just to piss them off!! :)

Spirit of the Age is one of my favourite tracks by any band.

The lyrics crack me up every time. A poignant tale of star-crossed lovers :)

So many literally stellar tracks by that band. And I wish I could have seen Michael Moorcock on stage, that would have been a trip.

I was dragged along to see Nik Turners’ Inner City Unit at the lower refectory, Sheffield University in about 1984, knowing nothing about them. The light show was just a single bulb on a long lead that was swung out over the audience, it was awesome, the stand out song of the night was “watching the grass grow” but I guess you had to be there.

Written by Robert Calvert who is a master lyracist, my favorite lines is from the flying Dr, "He pulled out his fist and scientifically socked her, look out you better duck here comes the flying Dr":) Nick Turner the crazy brilliant out there dude.

After there brief succes with Silver Machine the song that stopped them from getting signed big time(so fucking glad they didn't!!) was the follow up single Urban Guerrilla during the trouble's in Ireland, it didn't go down well and thank fuck it didn't!! :)
