gravel on roundabouts

my mates just lowsided his Mille on a large local roundabout. went a bit wide (like 2.5 metres from the kerb) and the back end just washed out, dropped it on its side and slide until hitting the kerb and landing on the grass.Quite a bit of damage including a dented front wheel, exhaust and smashed alternator casing.
I phoned the Highways agency immediately after it happened and they had a van out in 30 minutes. Couple of lads swept up about a bucket full of gravel from each exit on the round about. Luckily I got before and after photos and a call reference number - do you think you can claim from the Highways agency ?
 
Sounds like you would stand a good chance, where there is blame there is a claim, talk to your insurance co, they will want someone else to pay !
 
from past experience probably not, HA sem to have responded quickly and exactly as they should, they only need to check a road in a certain schedule so provided their last check was ok no reason to think anything needed doing, you'd need to prove they knew of the gravel and hadn't done anything about it, can you find out if it had been reported??

Ahh, ok, knew it would be somewhere round there, you boys been playing at knee down again ;)

Am supposed to be up there 2moro, not feeling to good at the moment though so will see how tonight goes !
