GPS Systems

That would be interesting! How does a Volvo xcountry fit on to monster handlebars? Would you be able to take it off and put it in your pocket so the thieving scumbags don't nick it!;)

Jan, i've got a garmin Quest on the multi, useful in towns and checking if your speedo is accurate or for seeing where you've been. No substitute for map reading on an open road but good if you have to get to a specific location in a town or city. Bought the Quest not Quest 2 or Streetpilot, it is portable, lacks memory capacity of quest 2 but still has all uk on, downsides are buttons can be hard to hit with gloves on ,display isn't the biggest and i can't see a way of "finding" a postcode. You can get different mount kits, RAM bars etc for them so aren't too hard to fit. i added a how to for a multi to the tech/multistrada pages a while ago.

Gizmo, what about TomToms, they seem to have the most models? I'm looking for something that needs to be waterproof (for obvious reasons) and that I can use handheld and in the car too.

Oh yes, and I don't mind if it talks English, German, French, Italian or Welsh, it's all the same to me pals.

I got an Acer PDA with built in GPS, its ok and you can get maps for all of europe too, i got it mainly for the car but figured i could use on the bike in a map pocket on a tank bag. just need to connet a cig lighter socket under the seat to power it coz the display goes on to screensaver automatically. will be nigh on impossible to operate once travelling but ok for following a route or dispalying nearby petrol stations etc. also it does auto route recalculations. In practice i dont no how workable it will be but im gonna try it.

looked at tom tom rider but it was more money and there were limitations on the software, can't recall what it was though ( i'm a geek and want it to upload/download as much as i can). quest was smaller and can work on a pedal bike, works in car but is a bit small if mounted too far away. I never use the voice thing, i just look at distance to the next turn and work from that. mines under my windshield on multi, its been out in rain and seems to be ok.
