Galloway Gallop

Just wondered if there were any more details for this as the time is fast approaching. I appear to be the only one who has RSVP'd.

Still a week to go, so I thought I'd put up the itinerary early next week. Open to suggestions, of course, but my general plan is to head for Kirkudbright for about mid-day. An ice-cream stop at the harbour is a must.

I hope to put in an appearance on my way home from a friend's party near Langholm. Kirkcudbright is about midway.
For the usual reasons I don't intend to leave Langholm too early so maybe 1-2ish in the Harbour Sq car park would suit ?

Hi BD I was thinking about following the coast all the way from Dumfries. Through New Abbey, Dalbeattie to Palnackie and Auchencairn, through Auchencairn and Dundrennan then into Kirkcudbright. Its a nice run with some fairly good twisties and very little chance of any cameras!

If you want to meet up in Dumfries before heading to Kirkcudbright I'd be happy to ride up with you.

Duncan,

That sounds like a good route, so let's pencil that in from Dumfries to Kirkudbright, aiming to get there for 1pm ?. Can you suggest an impossible to miss meeting point in Dumfries or on the road to New Abbey for 12.00 for everyone coming on the run ?. Dumfries or thereabouts would seem to be a logical meeting point for groups coming from any direction.

After Kirkudbright I was thinking of going west to Wigton/Port William then back to Newton Stewart-New Galloway-Thornhill-Elvanfoot. After that the various groups can disperse north, south, east, etc to get home. The days are long and the Galloway roads are stunning and under-rated so it will be a belter of a run - all the better with the Ducati orchestra roaring along !.

If you can get back to me with a meeting point I'll put up the route etc on the calendar.

Certainly happy to head on into Wigtownshire with you. It's on my way home.
Newton Stewart / New Galloway / Moniaive / Dalveen Pass. Awesome !

ShedBob. :lol2:

i might make it for lunch on Sunday, multi is getting dropped off for its 2 year service at Ducati Leeds on Saturday so it'll be dependent on weather as the 999 is on soft race type tyres and i don't fancy sliding around the Borders if its wet :) post the meeting time/place for Dumfries and the lunch stop please.

I'm beginning to think we shouldn't trust weather forecasters but, looking at the forecast for Galloway tomorrow it looks like there'll be plenty of sunshine but with showers coming in by mid-late afternoon. Therefore, rather than start at 12 in Dumfries how about starting at 10 in Moffat and doing the route in reverse ?. Just a suggestion to enjoy the best of the day and hopefully get a mostly dry run.

ShedBob, I know you can't make it down from Langholm that early but you could still stick to your plan and meet us at Kirkudbright at 1-ish then ride with us round the coast road or whatever takes the mood ?.

As I say, just a suggestion to work around the weather forecast. However, let's go with the vote - stick to plan and meet at Dumfries for 11.30 or change to Moffat for 10. Answers, please on a postcard to....

fine by me DB. I will meet in Moffat at 10. Sun burning a hole in me here today. I will probably be up early tomorrow so I will give you a weather update in the morning. It is the big vintage car rally in Moffat this weekend. Cheers.

Righto. Moffat at 10 am tomorrow and we'll do the route in reverse, which will let us meet up with ShedBob at Kirkudbright as originally planned.

I'll put details on the calendar.

Good morning,
First weather report for Dumfries;
YeeHaa its dry!, sun trying to break through the very high clouds. Cooler than it has been of late but on the whole, quite pleasant. It looks nicer in the East than the West, but, so far, it looks very promising.

Hope you had a great day guys! ;)
Had a great run thanks Scot. Sounds like you are progressing well on your adventure. Thanks DB for today it was a cracking run even if it wasn't a big turn out. Nice to meet Geoff on his Monnie in Moffat and Shedbob on his lovely old Laverda Jota in Kirkcudbright. Hope you got back ok Davie, and didn't get too wet!

Begob !
Me Jota's picture on the electroweb !
Not looking half so nice by the time I got home, lots of heavy showers, covered in muck.
Hope you found somewhere good for lunch. Nice to meet you both.

ShedBob :)

Oh the fat bloke in the picture isn't me !

Galloway run

Hi Duncan, David
The Triumph turnout was slightly better - we had four riders. Anyway had a good run - seen some heavy rain but never mind. Split from the others at Moniaive and took the B729 road back to Ayr and then through Kilmaurs, Stewarton and then to Glasgow. A lot of the B729 is single track and very twisty but excellent even in the wet. Hope you guys had a good run and hopefully meet up soon for a run.

Geoff

A good blast, although a bit soggy by the time I got back home. The Galloway roads are absolutely tremendous and Kippford was a nice place to stop for a snack down on the Solway.

Good to meet ShedBob and see his Lavvy. A classic of a bike, for sure.

Thanks to Dunc for the coffee at his place on the way back.
