flakey engine

anyone running a 1000 ds engined duke that has developed a problem with the paint flaking off the engine? my bike 1000ss seems to be shedding its paint on the engine cases, is this usual? the bike is just over 2 years old.
maybye its just shedding its skin like a spider as its growing into an 1100! ( i wish!).:confused:

It's quite common unfortunately :( If the bike is under warranty you could try that route if not you will have to scrape of as much of the flaking paint as you can and touch up with something thats a close match .

sorry if i upset anyone. the world really is too Pc these days. maybe i should go back in time-"life on mars style".:o
 
Well, I'd advise getting your casings powdercoated black - oops, someone will be offended by use of the word black!

It's not you it's the site, You can't edit the title when you start a thread and you can't delete the first post or the thread either!
Don't worry about upsetting anyone one here, it seems there is only one person that seems to think it his place to police the site or try and start an arguement:mad:

Its ok. I'm not offended or trying to start an argument. Its not about PC either.

I just happen to have that skin complaint and would not wish it on anyone. There are perhaps other ways to describe flaking paint.

How about..........."Flaking Paint"???

That would at least give those of you ignorant to the said skin disease a step to a hint as to at least help the man with his flaking paint.

Im just back from a nice holiday and the 2nd thread I look at has got you mouthing off and generally upsetting the board........

Isnt it about time you @@@@in well grew up and got on with doing something constructive with your sad little life!!!!!!!!!! Like selling @@@@e cars and bumming your OAP boss every 2 mins.

Oh......and thanks for leaving the letter at DG for the VIP tickets for Nic and I.......

I hate to play devils advocate here but surely all board members are allowed an opinion ? Fergie posted his and asked politely if the post title could be edited , The response to his request is a little over the top in my opinion :(

Ermmmmmm........I used to suffer quite badly from eczema when i was a kid till about 12.

Does that give me a say Screwy???

Fergies got @@@@ all better to do than to wind folk up here and that IS the point!
 
Cant think of a better description slowpat. Got the dreaded eczema. But even worse... the dreaded flakey paint. Neither can tolerate large amounts of water, go through a wet phase, then start to crack then dries out and goes flakey and is an embarrasment in polite society!
If i could rub my steroid cream on my casings i would!!!!

Me and my bike......just social lepers.....ooops sorry to all you bikes out there with leprosy.

Way way off thread now but....There are days when my hands and face are as red and flakey as the bike and its been that way since being a nipper. Its really a @@@t deal when your young no doubts. But by 50 you learn that if you cant have a bit of a laugh even at youself you might aswell give up.
i wouldnt want anybodies sympathy...... unless it cured the bike.

Anyway im going to me shed with the bike now and we are not coming out until you all stop being nasty.
 
how about everyone using a bit of common sense, tolerance and understanding and not winding each other up? we'll all have different opinions, different things we are sensitive to and i'm sure can agree to disagree without it all getting personal !

i can appreciate Fergie's point but also see Slowpat didn't intend to cause offence, a few of the comments after that are a bit different! IMHO there is a world of difference between using words as a description and using the same words with the intention of hurting someone or a specific group and Slowpats offer to amend the title should have been enough to keep everyone happy

the purpose of this site was to get people together and share a common interest in bikes and i'm not going to spend my time reading every post and moderating it all, i assume you are sensible, intelligent people who realise that certain comments do cause offense and don't benefit anyone least of all Ducati-upnorth :(
 
kiddies, come on now, lets behave!! eh? The original post could have been worded better, but jesus lads and ladies, grow up its a computer forum and we can all be ded ard behind the screens. lets leave it there and carry on with the fun and frivolities and i vote this thread gets closed before it gets out of hand
 
It's not a flakey engine surely? The engine's fine, it's the surface treatment/coating on the cases isn't it? Or am I missing summat?
