End of an era for me.

Hi every one.

It is with a heavy heart that I sit here in the middle of the night writing to tell you all that I am giving up bikes.

Last week I lost another friend in an RTA and although a very positive person, I feel that it is time to put my wife and family first.

I've lost several dear friends in bike RTA's, all but one where put down to a third party. Any of you that do know me will be fully aware of the passion I have for all things bike related, but just looking at them fills me with sadness right now.

Maybe I will have a change of heart in a few years when My family has grown up, but right now I feel this is the right decision to make.

I will still be around, turn up to as many meetings that I can and stay a member of the SDC, as I would hate to lose contact with such a great bunch of people.

Peter,

That's sad news Peter and obviously has an affect on how you view motorcycling, I respect your decision and hope you'll keep in touch through the forum. I put a post up on your for sale thread, but this answers that question.

Peter

Extremely sorry to hear this, and understand completely.

We'll be over to see you sometime in July if you're about.

Sorry to hear about your friend but completely understand your reasons for giving up your bikes.

Please do keep in touch and hopefully see you some time over the summer.:)

Very sad news about your friend Peter and like others here I understand how you feel.

Keep in touch and hopefully see you over the next few months.

Sorry to hear mate of your pals death, these things are never easy. :(
Ive lost 4 mates through various ways over the last 7 years or so.

Never say never though and hopefully catch up soon.

Jeez Davie didn't know you had four mates... joking aside, that must be tough though !!

Really sorry to read this Pete, it does make you think and I'm not sure yet how I'll be when/if I get back on the bike......

Peter,
Sorry to read about your loss :( I lost my best friend 3 years ago, this month, on a ride out by Loch Lomond. I rode my bike to Dumbarton Police station that night and then went to the Mortuary, and then to his GF's home.
My mate picked it up the next day, and I sold it a week later.
There's not a day gone by that I haven't thought about my friend, but having had bikes for nearly 40 years, they've always been part of me, so I just bought a new one last week.
We passed the crash site on Sundays ride out , and saw the flowers his GF left 2 weeks ago, and it did have an effect on my riding, but hopefully that will ease through time.
Like you say, maybe some time off will help you, and I hope my sharing my experience helps you come to terms with your loss :)

Tough call mate but I think you must follow your heart on this, what with the young family and all. Perhaps a track bike for the odd track day?

Sorry to hear about your mate.

Try Trials bikes as an alternative to road.
Nice 4-stroke Sherco for example.

Lots of ways to motorcycle without RTA's.

Regards.

Sad to read this Pete. What about the KTM? Is it all bikes or just the road rockets that are turning you off??

Keep in touch Pete.

Hi Paul

All the bikes are going.

I have made up my mind, I know more people are killed at home doing stupid things but for me it's more a case of risk management. I snowboard most of the winter and that has it's risks but not so much chance of a third party causing problems. He was stationary and hit from behind thrown in to oncoming traffic.

With 3 widowed friends already, We now have another half of a great couple with two wonderful kids all heart broken it is so so sad.

A WASTE OF A GREAT MAN, HUSBAND, FATHER & SON.

We never did get to meet but fair play, I have done the same, maybe have little pangs sometimes but not often enough to warrant coming back to bikes, although I am being drawn more towards off-roaders I don't think it will happen !

Take care !

Ian

I will still be around. I have purchased dare I say it an automobile from the same country of origin, so I could always be the pace car or carry the picnick!

Really sorry to hear this pete, I too learned yesterday of a good mate who was tragically killed. U might know him pete from the KTM club. David weir I was actually due to be going out with him on the day of his accident, his wife called me yesterday after a couple of weeks cause the police had just returned his belongings including mobile phone with my number. It's also making me give some serious thought to my road riding.
I previously competed in trials and I'm giving some serious thought about returning.

Sure I'll catchya soon pete!!!

Yes mate I knew him, not well but we met a few times.

Pete,

Sorry to hear this, and I think I can understand the anguish. If giving up biking brings you peace of mind then that's the right thing to do. Hopefully, though, you'll keep in touch with the Ducati community and we'll see you from time to time. Anyway, we'll want to know whether Pibbow Junior no.2 is a boy or a girl come November (?) ....

Thank's David

Infact thank's all of you. I will without doubt keep in contact & meet up when we are closed in the winters.

You have all made me so welcome & feel that I have made a few friends for life (maybe not davieravie:D)
