There's one still on here but he 'pretends' to ignore people so he'll read it and be apoplectic that he can't reply and blow his cover 👀 thing is loads really do have him on ignore and he doesn't realise and still talks to them often, never getting a response 🤣

So I'm planning my next bike tour. Might involve a ferry from Greece to Venice.

Upon checking the ferry T&Cs there's a battery check for leccy cars before boarding, if its greater than 24% charged your not getting on.

What is the logic in that?

It's more likely to have a breakdown.
With an energy density of around 300-400Wh/kg, I'd prefer not to be on a boat with one or an enclosed space.
Remember a 1W soldering iron still melts tin/lead.

The battery Management system says its empty, but nearly 70% of the total chemical energy remains, albeit not usable to maintain a reliable battery nor power the circuits at the required voltage.

Leaving a lithium-ion battery empty (or at a very low state of charge) can damage it for several reasons:

  1. Chemical Reactions: When a lithium-ion battery discharges too low, the electrolyte can become unstable, leading to undesirable chemical reactions. This can result in the formation of lithium metal plating on the anode, which can reduce capacity and increase the risk of short circuits.
  2. Voltage Drop: Lithium-ion batteries have a specific voltage range for safe operation, typically between 3.0V and 4.2V per cell. When the voltage drops below the manufacturer's specified minimum (usually around 2.5V to 3.0V), it can cause irreversible changes to the battery's chemistry, leading to capacity loss.
  3. Increased Internal Resistance: Deep discharging can increase the internal resistance of the battery, making it less efficient and reducing its ability to deliver power. This can lead to overheating during charging and discharging.
  4. Cycle Life Reduction: Regularly allowing a lithium-ion battery to reach very low states of charge can significantly shorten its overall cycle life. Each deep discharge can contribute to wear and tear on the battery's materials.
  5. Battery Management Systems (BMS): Most modern lithium-ion batteries are equipped with a BMS that prevents over-discharge. However, if a battery is left in a discharged state for an extended period, the BMS may not be able to prevent damage once it falls below a critical threshold.
To prolong the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries, it's recommended to keep them charged between 20% and 80% of their capacity and to avoid letting them fully discharge whenever possible.

That’s right–you can’t buy a brand-new Jaguar in the UK anymore. The E-Pace, XE, XF, and F-Type had already been axed, and now the F-Pace has also bowed out. Autocar received a statement from JLR: "From November 2024, new Jaguar sales will come to an end ahead. We have now ceased allocation of our current generation of Jaguar vehicles.”

  • Jaguar is going fully electric, but the EVs aren't ready yet.
  • It won't sell any new cars in its home market until 2026.
  • You can still buy a new Jag outside of the UK.
