As bikers most of will ensure this is done before setting off, however this morning I was one of the first to the scence of an RTA where a young lady in an old Citroen AX hadn't, the sun the blided her, I guess and she hit the back of a stationary Low Loader at I would say looking at the road about 50-60 MPH ( Its a long straight )
Not even a skid mark
hit it square and how she survived I will never know, injuries looked fairly bad, I did what I could with a couple of others before this baby arrived........
Not alot we could do other than try and stop the blood from her face, airways were clear and she let out a few screams, she did start drifting and rambling though.
Her legs looked a bit of a mess the bulkhead of the car had come to meet her knees, although she was not trapped.
Air crew were as cool as cucumbers and got her braced up and on the back board with the minimum of fuss.
Thanked us a off they went......
I couldn't believe how fast the response was, the Air Ambulance beat the Police by a good 5 minutes, I asked one of the crew how they got there so quick and it turns out the had just dropped a customer off and had only just airbourne when they got the call.
Oh well the 'Company Car' first aid kit came in handy with gloves and bandages used to mop her up.
Shook me up though.
Lessons Learned.
1) Attend first aid course ASAP.
2) Carry First Aid in the car, easily accesible.
3) Clear the windscreen of Ice BEFORE setting off.
Take care out there.
