Ducati moto gp now in the ego class

Rumour mill says the Ducati Moto GP 'may' now not run thier bikes in the 'prototype' class and may instead run Andrea Dovi and Cal Crutchlow in the mid 'Evo' class.
Only a rumour at the minute but seems like a bike change in the game plan.
Bet the riders aren't happy.

Ducati Moto GP now in the OPEN class - probably with some ego as well

Page 62 of this weeks MCN - see told you so............

Evo, Open, Factory, Prototype? My head is spinning! :dizzy:

The open class has a control ECU right? Since that's where a lot of the innovation on their road bikes is, it would be pretty ironic if they run in a class where they can't change the electronics!

Open class

Might be a good thing for the team as they can work on the engine all season.

2014 appears to be a development year.

I know Colin Edwards was looking forward to running the yammy engine and Nicky Hayden was very keen on running the Honda. Both thought the open class might turn up a few surprises on certain tracks where the extra fuel will really help out.

I didn't think they had a problem with the engine - the problem was with the handling and the power delivery (which is where the ECU comes in)?

Can't really see the point for a "factory" team to be AIMING to run mid-pack by entering a lower class. Unless they are thinking of selling a range of V4 roadbikes, they will get little from it that can filter down, and finishing top of your class, but in 8th or 9th place isn't really a great marketing coup!

Maybe because of all the rule changes (and the BT Sport shenanigans) I'm not that excited by Moto GP this year. :ohwell:

Moto hee pee

I think the racing will be really good with the non 'aliens' fighting it out for the non top 5places.
But I'm not even sure how I'm going to watch it ( see the thread on here about BTsport) but will probably have to watch via the moto gp channel on the internet.

See Eurosport have ditched tony carpenter as BSB / Eurosport commentator and taken on Matt from the now defunct BBC team.

What does non 'aliens' mean i don't get it

The commentators coined the phrase "aliens" in the last decade which was supposed to describe how only certain riders with "out of this world"(geddit) talent could get a Moto GP bike to a podium finish.

The whole aliens thing was blown out of the water a bit by Rossi being de-aliened after his move to Ducati (wait... aliens need to be on the best bikes to be aliens?), and and that young fella coming from Moto 2 and winning in his first year doesn't help matters. Don't think there are any crap riders on a Moto GP track and given the right bike, team and support, I reckon most of them could be in the top three on a good day.

When it was 500cc GP and the bikes were brutal and highly unforgiving there might have been some truth... inasmuch as some riding styles just weren't suited/competitive on a 160bhp two stroke with a powerband like a wafer thin mint.

Alternatively, he might have been talking about this:

I now have BT sport in preparation but i don't expect to see Ducati racing this year since the TV crews only ever follow the lead bunch of 4-5 bikes.
