Ducati Manchester

Glad you got it sorted out Gunny.

Don't wish to dampen your spirits any, but i think there is still some dross in what the sales director is telling you.

I could be completely wrong given my limited knowledge of the range and hopefully someone will correct me if that is the case, but i think the "biposto" and the "S" can be one and the same bike. For example i have a 748S biposto. The picture in your original post also looks suspiciously like an "S". They also currently have another 996biposto advertised here and it also looks like an "S" model bike. Again, bearing in mind my lack of knowledge of the range i thought that the standard bip came with 3spoke wheels and not the sexy 5spoke marchesini items on all the pictures in this thread? Gold forks and braided lines are other features of the "S" i believe.

Good luck with the bike, it looks a cracker!

think ill buy a bike from ducati manchester....hopefully ill ask for a raleigh chopper and walk out with a brand new 999;) ;) ;)

I think they all had the 5 spokes from a certain year (late 90s) also braided lines. S was available in bip or mono form. As far as I can recall the standard 996 and 996s looked identical except for the sticker on the tale unit that had an S after 996.

ANORAK ALERT !!!!

Different engine internals and larger exhaust system (50mm um from 45mm I think) I also thing both had ohlins rear shock, the new generation of S is an R without the engine and carbon. I may be wrong but as the original 916SPS was a 996 engine the 996s has basically a 916SPS engine, ish.

They were more expensive when new and were available in BP and Mono.

I thank you !!!

I think the 996s had a 45mm system but with a 45 to 50mm link pipe for the termis? I beg to differ that the S is not an R without the engine and carbon! I am sure the frame is different, also the R has Ohlins up front and the later pad per piston brakes which are much better. And I think the brake master cylinder is not the same. Also front discs are thinner and lighter. And the wheels on the R are lighter as well.

Lots of discussion whether the 996s had Ti rods as the 996sps had. It seems that some had and some had not. Beware of imported 996s has certain markets the engine was the same as a standard 996.

Well done gunny for getting it sorted! Just check what are the diameter of the down pipes on your 996 because if they are 45 mm you will need a 45mm-50mm converter. This is the two pipe vertical section that is welded together just behind the footpegs. I don't think that the standard S had a 50mm system ans as such these termignoni that you are getting won't fit. Sometimes you see the converter on Ebay or you can get them from Casolo Moto for about £200, I tried to put the link up but for some reason it kept coming up with that annoying page that says 'can't find it'

Maybe a look on Ducati.com will help you regards the model/year of bike you have.

2000 was the model year that Ducati went to 5 spoke wheels on the 996 BIP and SPS.
I know only too well cos I bought a 996 BIP in Sept 1999 and three months later the "better" wheels and Nitrided showas appeared on the 2000 model year 996 BIP.

The 996s was a 2001 model. The 996 SPS was discontinued, replaced by the 996r.

The 2001 996s had a very similar engine spec to the 2000 996sps, some say less Ti rods, but in Typical Ducati fashion you get what was in the parts bin, if std rods run out and they've got some TI rods around then bingo.

On another Topic, a few bases have "track days" but they like to call 'em something else. Not Surprising the security is tight depending what toys are based there. Usually the proceeds go to charity, Local air ambulances seem a favourite locally.

Duc Manchester were the first of the new wave of Ducati Stores.
To my embarassment when Ducati Leeds launched, I was speaking to either Lee or Charlie saying how much better their place looked than Duc Manchester not realising the owner of Duc Manchester was sitting at a table next to me.:o

Ray.

Spoke to the top brass at kinloss today and they will not allow motorcycles to use the runway due to health and safety issues

typical really, tax payers money, but the tax payer cant use it!!

Sorry, should have made the post clearer, the New generation of S ie 749 999 is more like an R without engine and carbon the 749/999 s's come with the Ohlins front and rear. as long as Gunny is happy, all ends well that started not so !!!

Shame about the track day runway do though.

Well my titanium termi's arrived today, brand spankers for £325 inc special delivery, courtesey of Adam@Ducati Manchester (sales director), i also recieved £40's worth of clothing for free.
I fit the termi's myself, getting my remapped chip on monday, the termi's sound the Mutts Nutts, pretty sure they are fitted properly, no troble putting them on anyway (how would i know if they weren't properly fiitted??), apart from the obvious such as sticking out the same as indicators :D

So that brings an end to my snags with Ducati Manchester, hopefully this new "Organ Grinder" Adam will have the shop up to scratch in the future so i may one day return there.

I am now satisfied with results of my dispute with Ducati Manchester having gained the following:-

996S instead of 996 Biposto an extra £900 worth of bike
Titanium Termi's special delivery for £325
£40 worth of clothing
Apology from Sales Director

here gunny tell your boss were all one legged lesbian cannibal illegal immigrants and that he has to let us use the strips cause its our human rights.;)

:D if we were iranian drug traffickers looking for somewhere to stow our camelfaced prostitues we would be given food, accomadation, sky tv and free R6's for the weekend.

Glad to hear u got sorted Gunny ive just sat and read the whole sorry episode and i hope that sales monkey got a real good slap, well done to the sales director for for accepting all responsibility and getting you sorted, sounds like a top man. I was wondering if you could ask your gaffer if me and my Iranian drug traffickin m8s could stow away our camelfaced prostitutes while we visit toofas as were hungry thirsty and would like to watch the bsb on his sky, before we go out and have a low speed fly by on his run way, he would then be held in the same regard as Adam at DM (Top Man).

Been once to view a 748r, described as mint........what a comedian. DM just a p**s stop on the way to a real dealer.

We have been promised by martyn748 that things will be changing, he is taking over as general manager and is a Ducati fanatic, he also has many years in the motor trade. We all wish him well in his new roll at Ducati Manchester.

I also went to see a 748, mmmmm now I have to a bit more PC !!!!! It was not the best example I had seen, (it was a dog )

/QUOTE=dunlop0_1......... DM just a p**s stop on the way to a real dealer./QUOTE

Unfortunately they don't seem to do themselves any favours at DM.
At the recent "open day" I was looking at an Aprilia and from a distance it looked like it had a gold coloured chain on it.....it was the rust glinting in the sunlight. Chain was well rusted. It's the little thing's like that, that make the difference.

Absolutely, the three year old bike parked outside for £6995 will be someones pride and joy, you do not want to see an extra £300 worth of work when you get it home, or know that they will do it if you pay that, if you want to haggle the chain/tyres/chip etc etc etc will not be done.

Hope to see you soon alane, if only for a brew !!!!!
