.................................................. .................................................. ....

As part of our commitment to our customers we organise trackdays.

We do this so we can offer specialist knowledge about the bikes, pass on our experience with them and try to offer any assistance possible.

On every trackday we have staff members on hand to take you round and show you the lines and braking points. We work with you at your own level and concentrate on parts of your riding that you want to work on.
ALL OF THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE £60 PRICE OF EACH TICKET.

The track is somewhere you can forget about all of the usual concerns about road riding ie:- pot-holes, cars, buses, hedgehogs, brick walls etc, etc, etc. The emphasis is on FUN and SAFETY. (But we can't guarantee that the odd duck or deer might make an appearance!!!)

Just because the speeds are generally higher, doesn't mean the danger is! The best way to approach a trackday is viewing the circuit as a safe stretch of road that you can learn easily.

Every rider on track will be riding their pride and joy so it is a very courteous environment, there is no fairing bashing!

Call us for more details or just to book yourself on. 0141 333 4 998

How a trackday works!

The set-up is simple. All 40 riders on the track together whether novice or fast for a 2 hours "open" session.
For those not familiar with the terminology:- normally trackdays take the form of riders split into groups according to skill level. Each group then gets usually 10 - 15 mins on the track then breaks while the other groups get their turn.
On an open session track evening such as ours, the pit lane is open so riders can come in and out as much as they please. Maximising track time as much as possible.

The secret to these evenings is all about the briefing the riders receive before hitting the tarmac.
The safety briefing from the Knockhill staff is fully comprehensive. Track misbehaviour is simply not tolerated by them or us. The effect is that all skill and speed levels can intermingle on the track easily and without incident. The positive effect being the slower guys learn from the faster guys!

Over-taking is done only in straight lines, either on the brakes or on the straights. We always recommend leaving the corner overtaking manouevres to the racers and the Pro's.

Safety taken care, it's easy to relax and enjoy the pure enjoyment of riding your motorcycle

If you've not tried one, give it a go, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how organised our events are and just how much fun you will have.

advice needed

dear all,

after waiting a while to get my lovely 999R back, i was as excited as a very excited thing to see it again last weekend all shiny, beautiful and track ready (drainpipe sized exhaust, bendy levers, crash bungs, throwaway fairing....slipper clutch and quickshift will shortly follow).

however it is also shod in brand new michelin power race rubber (the old ones went blue). as it doesn't have horn, lights/wiring or number plate I can't scrub them on the road before hand. given that you are always told "take it easy for the first 200 miles", and i usually do 75 miles on a track night, am I wise to potter about all night?

i think i know the answer to this already!

Mike,

Just start slow and build it up - once you get some heat into them, just work them more progressively.

It's the gel coat that causes the problems, but given you're on the track you're going to accelerate it's dissapation - just don't go trying to set your super pole lap too early on ;)

If you've got the luxury of tyre warmers I do one lap at around 80% then I'm off on new rubber.

For DD on the standard diablo's I do around 5-10 laps before I'm decked out, and before Scot says it not in the gravel either

mike you will be fine after 10 laps of leaning then next lap a bit more angle then a bit more angle. u can scrub tyres in 15 mins. keep it smooth, see u there chap.

Hi mike,
I took one lap to scrub my Power Race's in and about 5 laps to warm them through (I don't have tyre warmers either), then I don't spare the horses on them atall!!! - see you there. :)

Ed likes a wee touch of baby oil rubbed on his "hoop's" He reckons it softens them up nicely.:o :o

It's not a gel coat, it's the release agent that makes new tyres slippery. In essence Scot is absolutely right, 5 or 6 laps will see them nicely scubbed, just don't go nailing it whilst at max lean too soon. Come in and have a good look after half a dozen laps - you'll be able to see what's happening then

Was down at Oulton a couple of years ago and my mate went round the circuit on the back of a GSXR Thou with Niall McKenzie the bike being straight out of the crate.

One lap to get a feel for it , next lap flat out  ...........cant speak much for the front tyre as it was off the deck as they wheelied down the home straight however the rear stood up OK.

Niall suggested the 70-100 mile coating theory for road bikes on road tyres is somewhat overstated to err on the side of caution and safety.

Do whatever your happy with its all about confidence.
