Ducati 250 street scrambler

Sam - would be interested to know what jets/slide are in your 627. That's the carb my Spanish 250 should have (I could only get a 930, near enough!). I got the specs for it from a Spanish parts manual but would be good to have them confirmed or otherwise from one off another bike!

Cheers

Kenny.
Have you tried calling Amal to see if they can help?
These firms often have an old school techie guy who can recite specs off the top of their head.
Chances are they have had this enquiry several times before.

No - I've got the specs from a Mototrans parts manual I found on the interweb, which I'm sure must be correct - it's a factory manual. I bought those from Amal, but for the 930 that I got to put on the bike. It's now running fine (having sorted out the ATU - again...), but was interested to see what Sam's carb had in it. From what he's listed above it's the same. As far as I know the Spanish bikes all had Amals - built in Spain under license - but a lot of the Italian bikes also had the Dellortos junked and replaced with Amal concentrics which seemed to be regarded as "better" carbs - in the UK at least!

It was purely curiosity rather than any specific requirement. I've also got a nice collection of main jets now. I've tried everything from a 150 to a 220 but have settled on the 190 - it's revving out in the first 3 gears now (don't think it's got the guts to rev out in 4th and 5th) and is showing an indicated 110 km/h flat out with a nicely biscuity colour plug. Don't think I can expect much more from it really!

I just have to give this guy a mention Carlo Leoncini http://www.motofficinaleoncini.it/default.aspx had been speaking to him by email Jockanese Italian translator settled on a deal Sunday evening 28th I thought it was a belated birhday pressy arriving today.

Can ye see what it is yet?

Must be the most beautifully packaged motorcycle part I have received yet

What a work of art!

as you may tell I was not happy with the other rod so was sent back and bought something I will not have to worry about.

Pic of the brake plate I picked up on Thursday for the planned brake conversion

IMG_2941.jpg

It came from a "Hondati" K2/4 series. If the brake is that poor with good linings this is what I shall be using, hopefully the twin leading brake plate will give a little hope of stopping power!:)

My engine bolts were looking a bit tired so cut up a length of stainless round bar and made some new ones.
I ran a die up both ends, one end only enough to take a nut then welded the nut to the round bar machined it flush then polished the ends.

Result nice new sparkling engine bolts.

This has been plaguing on my mind for a while now, the piston that came with the bike was damaged and at £184 a piston set I decided to weld the damaged area and re-machine the ring grove.

I have done this in the past without any problems but I kept on thinking I have done so much to the motor could this be the achilles heel?
I was browsing my favourite store last night and came across a new old stock piston in the states, the bidding finished this evening so I now have a new in the box piston on its way for the grand total of £57 delivered to the door.
Who ever doubts that things come to those who waits had better think again! :)

Good to hear that you've got another piston at a sensible price, that one in the pics is well past it's best.

Those moments when you find a bit you need are the best. Peeling away that mouldy old cardboard to get at the treasure is better than anything they found on Time Team. That bits of metal and plastic can give such happiness!

And unlike Time Team the bits we uncover look like something recognisable unlike a 1 square centimetre of stone which "is part of a rim of a Roman vase that was probably used to serve wine and would have been painted blue.....".

Picked up my crank this morning pressed and true.Worthy of a GP crank!
