Dseered's Cadwell 2 dayer report.

Well, I had forgotton how bloody far it was for a start, air con in the van needs re-gassing, so all it does is pump out hot air, by the time I had got to Lancaster I was medium / well done so by the time I arrived at Cadders I was well and truly ready for a beer !

Arrived and had a drive round the paddock, spotted CK and AK at the bottom end of the paddock overlooking the holding area and Mountain, crucially near the bathroom facilities !

First off was to erect, fnnarr, the new 'freestanding' awning for the van, handy that it was sold as freestanding as I was on paddock concrete, guess what its not fecking freestanding, so off I go to find suitable grass standing, AK following close by dragging the partially erected fnnnnar awning, any way a bit of fannying around and it was up and attached to the van. Great stuff, Time to unpack !

Obviously by the time evrything was unpacked, people had started to arrive and more beer was flying around, time to pace myself, gotta be up early, more to the point ride for the first time in the fast group !

Yeah right !

Great night was had, between the monsoons and put loads of faces to names!

Off to bed for an early one, airbed in the back of the van, side door open into the airy awning, new sleeping bag, humphrey comfy !

Disaster struck.

In the middle of the night I roll over, the sequence of events taht followed took some working out, I think it was something like this...........

Schoolboy error I suppose was to position the airbed 'flock' side down on the floor of the van, thus leaving the slippy side up, the bit I was sleeping on, couple that with my new fabby sleeping bag that has an internal collar and hood that renders your arms useless and that became an issue !

So, roll over, corner of bed must have been positioned over the internal van step, when I rolled over the bed tipped and I went out the side door like an Exocet, backwards while locked in my sleeping bag like freaking Houdini, at first I wondered what the hell had happened, then I had to find my way out of the bag, in the dark while trying to be quiet, didn't want anyone thinking there was anything odd going on in the awning !

Job sorted, up early cook brekkie and off to sign on, in the monsoon, glum faces everywhere but I knew it would brighten up !

Fast group out first for the sighting laps and as it had stopped raining I went out.

My bike handled like a complete bag, heavy steering, scary, anyway we just did the two sighting laps and I came in, with the intention of checking my tyre pressures, I forgot by the time I got back to the tent, skipped the next session and just before I was going out for the third I remembered.......

its no wonder it wouldn't handle 18Lbs in the front, ooops

Yeti was pitched up near me and we were having a chat and he offered to do a session with me as he was instructing, TP had followed me for a couple of laps aswell so I already knew I had flushed out the looking behind me demons, so I just tried to be smooth and safe while infront of John (Yeti), had real good fun on that session and made some good passes and didn't really get passed so was chuffed, I was also a bit nervous though as Johns mate was watching us go round, I kinda knew his face when we were talking before going out, then it dawned on me who it was, John Reynolds, no pressure then !

I have to say that the way Yeti gave feedback was very good and easy to understand and I followed it as best I could in the next session, it was all about the lines I was taking round some of the bends (Coppice) and body position, for example I think I was going faster today than yesterday but didn't touch my knee down once, whereas on the first day it they were dragging everywhere !

No red flags all day in the fast group which was great and I think there was only one faller on day one, a quick trip to Louth and she was patched up and ready to go again !

I was funny though how people just don't listen in the briefing, first lap round one guy was lofting the front up for all to see, it wasn't long before he got the flag though !

Monday night was great, some really good people having the craic, a few cheeky beers and a whole pig for us to share, a really good spread carved by the butcher in front of us the crackling was amazing !

Was chatting to a guy who had flown in from the states to do the two days, him and his mate had a great weekend and I will be sending him the link to here as he didn't know where the Lake District was and was keen to see the RTL pics ! ( Hello Courtney if you read this)

Ducati UK were there with their demo bikes and people were out all day on 'em having fun, great bunch of blokes from DUK and we had some good chats over the weekend, nice to see you !

Woke up bright and early this morning, airbed secured and mental note to roll the other way in the night, just for us the sun was shining and it was smiles all round great day out, ran off twice, once my fault at Mansfield when I couldn't downshift ?

Next one was a guy an a yellow Yam ran me off, in his quest to dominate Cadwell, prat. Obviously it was perfectly ok for him to come up the inside, I had been doing it during the day, trouble was as he came through I was about to tip in and he ran wide so it was go down or go grasstracking, I did the latter and he rode off without so much as a wave.

My day ended then really as my clutch was 100% knackered, maybe it just needed bleeding, I didn't care, I was tired !

Many thanks to all involved in the organisation, pig was amazing !

Huge thanks to Dr AK for showing me how to change the oil  he is a star and my bike now can offically carry the stickers ' Fettled by Dr AK, she is proud to wear them.

CK for being CK and a great host in the Team Knight Racing gazebo ( both of AK & CK's DD bikes run DuN stickers ) aalso many thanks for the offer to ride one of the bikes that I didn't take you up on !

Scooter for some great tussles throughout today and for helping load the van up.

Guy Cope for being there and taking, I would imagine by the end of today about 2500 top class photos.

Anton, Cleggy and Ruth nice to meet you, Redruth, Loz, Nelly, Rushjob, KB, everyone and sorry to anyone I have missed.

I had a great 2 days at Cadwell, one that I will remeber for a very long time, sorry to anyone in the fast group if I was a chicane, I tried not to be !

So then anyone for a 2 dayer at Oulton next year, come on, you know you want to !

Time for a quick beer now !

Dseered ;)

Yer, glad you had a good time. I agree with you on the mountain though. your report brings back memories of sleeping under the stairs next to the Pantah & being woken up at stupid o'clock by the crows in the trees - which I presume are still there!! :)

pics?

Your not kidding Ed, them bastid crows were just not funny, I was camped out on the edge of the paddock facing the Mountain with the crows to my right, they wake up really early you know !

Once I was awake (read 4am) I used to wrap myself up in my sleeping bag and walk the circuit, scaring all the bunnies away in the process!!! :p
I miss the southern circuits - I was so close to them!!

As for photos, keep an eye out here http://www.copeimages.com/ in the next couple of days they should start appearing, Guy also works full time so he is a busy man and will be back at Cadwell at the weekend for BSB, can't wait to see them, as I say I think he took about 2500 pics over the 2 days !

Somewhere over the other side of the paddock late Monday night was a big sound system, twas amusing as everyone that was still up was lip syncing or shouting.................

Is it a MONSTA, Is it a MONSTA.............
and so it went on, WHATS THAT COMING OVER THE HILL.....................

how apt for Cadwell !

Eurofighters kept buzzing us aswell, bloody flyboys !

LOL,

oh those were the days - Jez; that was in '94 - where's the time gone!

did the DOC trackday every year religously until 2002 and never had any rain. It was always on the 3rd Monday of June. :)

And when that Supermono came past, well, it was something else, then I saw the name on the leathers "HACKET" that bike was gorgeous, I mean really gorgeous !

'Shiny side up' doesn't work with airbeds then, Ian!
Glad you had a good one, I'm tempted to join the next, watch this space...

Nothing like a good trashy novel to get you off to sleep at night.............

;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

2 excursions this time!!! OK one wasn't your fault, you'll be off sooner or later mate if you're not careful ;)

Forgot Johnny was going with the supermono, I've seen it enough times in the showroom though but would of been nice to see it moving.

As for Cadwell never done a TD there been there a few times over the years and really have no desire to give it a try to be honest, but it sounds like it was a good time and that's all that matters.

No did you say 2 dayer at Oulton :D

Freak, from what I hear, with your experience - you will love it!!! :)

Oh do tell..... :D

Nah looks too narrow to me to be honest and some places are damn scary no run off etc, plus it's a good 3 hours away and Oulton's literally 5 minutes (2.5 miles door to door) :D

Ian,

someone has posted up a link to to some on bike camera footage, it looks like you in front with those trademark white boots!

Big thanks to Lizzie, Monty and all the hard working crew who helped put the 2 dayer on.

The track soon dried out on day one. Courteous riding by all.

Lessons from Paul Smart Rep Number 16 on how to go round corners.

Nice to see the take up on the lunch time track taster session.

Thanks to Butch for sorting out the Hog Roast.

Nice tunes from “Club Conerspeed” at the top of the paddock, shame the pole dancer wasn’t up to doing her act after the off earlier in the day!!

The fire twirling looked good in the distance and deadly close up.

Breakie in the café was a treat watching the sun beaming down on cadwell’s mountain. More lessons in how to go round corners from the DDers, was fairly hopefull of at least keeping AK in sight for a while ‘til the elastic broke.

Thanks to DUK for bringing some bikes to ride, had a go on the S4RS Monster, what a Hoot, was just as quick as the 998 is a straight line and so much more leverage on the bars for going round the corners, a great bike for the twisty stuff.

More lessons, in how to ride round corners, this time from Tonio? on DUK’s 749.

Then the fun was over, ‘Til next time.

Ray

Great write up Ian. It was clear you were having a great time in spite of your comment at the Pig Roast that your bum cheeks were incredibly sore - looked ok to me as you wandered off to get another beer though ;)

I know those boots! I spent a couple of laps following them in the first afternoon session of day 2.

Nice riding fella...you were a tad quicker than me through the woodland section when I was on Ruthie's 996, must be all those nadgery lakeland roads you boys get up to.

I was reeling you back in on the parkland section, (must be all those fast sweepers us BHCN boys get up to) but it was a really cool couple of laps trying to get past.

I could learn a lot from your body position on the bike, I think I'm hanging off when I've only just moved my butt a millimetre.

and I appear on this one for a bit about 1.27 I think, that is Yeti behind me, in front of camera bike, check out the darkie he leaves coming onto the start finish !

Should bring back some memories Ed !

Yup that did bring back memories(not the memory of breaking my scaphoid in the Gooseneck and dumping it at the hairpin!!) - Can't believe you let him overtake you round the outside of Chris curve!! ;)

Just fixated on the rider in front I guess + video man was quicker than me, I was thankful of the run off at Mansfield though !

funny that - I've run off there too - cooked brakes. I've had some great pictures taken over the years on that bend too. Glad you liked it though - the little Nurburgring in Lincolnshire!!!

...Mansfield...

(hope you don't mind my posting pics on your thread - just thought of the entertainment value!!:) )

Ah, a weird story Ed, remember JohnC who i got laverda off? he just crashed his S4 monster at Chris, trying to go round the outside of him and the guy ran off track, John got forced off as well trying to avoid him, its a fookin fast corner that and he was lucky not to hurt himself.

I don't mind at all, I went straight on there 'cause I had a downshift issue, as in it wouldn't, so it was go round and then be in the wrong gear or go straight on, thats what I did, great view from the top !

Can't wait for Guido's pics to appear !

most of my pics were taken by the same guy - Jim Gainsford - he was always at the DOC trackday and is a brilliant photographer! .....

Gizmo I have seen this happen at Chris aswell. I have always loved it when you get Park right then it flows into Chris as if it was just one big curve!
