Do I ? , Don't I ?

OK this is totally irrational but I'm struggling to shake it

I'm seriously thinking of selling the 851 and buying a Paso  The 851 and the Paso where the two bikes I lusted after in the late 80,s early 90,s and whilst I love the 851 I can't help but feel it's totally wasted on me , My riding style is more BMW rather than Ducati sports bike

Two bikes isn't really an option as I don't feel I ride the 851 enough so can't justify having a bike sat idle in the garage though the thoughts tempting :D

SO do I scratch the itch , sell the 851 and get a Paso ? Or do I try to come to my senses and enjoy what I have ?

I love my 906 Paso. Great riding position that doesn't make your wrists ache after a ride out. Comfy seat that doesn't make your butt ache after a day in the saddle. A genuine sports - tourer. Steve is probably right in opting for the 907ie as the fuel injection system is far superior to the twin choke Webber carbs on the 906 plus the 17" wheels on the 907 give a better ride and choice of tyres over the 16" 906 wheels. Whichever version, for a 17 year old bike designed by the guy who brought us the new MV Augusta F4, it still gets the admiring glances. :)

No right answer. If you got a Paso would you ride it more than the 851?
If no then stick with what you have. If you are not comfortable with the 851 then change it. Probably a good time to sell an 851 and a good time to buy a Paso!
Bad news is you probably couldn't do justice to a 907 either as it is pretty much an 851 in disguise!
latest Paso was and still is seriously underrated and would do all you need.
Only briefly rode an 851 and loved it! Loved the easy predictable handling and far less extreme than my 748.
I was offered the last of the Paso's which has had one owner from new and is probably one of the best examples in the country last year and swithered but bike is possibly still for sale.
Ride what YOU want to not what you think you should. 99% of riders couldn't do justice to an 851/Paso never mind a 1098!!:)

Or how about sell the 851 and buy an ST4?
It has an 851/888 chassis, 916 engine and the comfort of the Paso - the best of both worlds. Better still, an ST4s with a 996 engine, Öhlins rear suspension and nitrided Showas up front.
I admit to being slightly biased with this suggestion :)

You could always put a post on the DOC forum asking if anyone has experience of a 906/7 and a 851 and the differences between them, riding and comfort etc.

Derek, should I assume your new avatar is you in your youth with your bevel?
860 gte? (sorry eyesight failing and can't quite make out side panel design!)
And I'm not going to guess where it was taken....if I didn't get Ullapool for your last one there is no chance with this one! Sorry to hijack the thread!:sorry2: :OT:

Enjoyed my 906 when I had it from new - F reg. Think it was one of a limited run of grey and white paintjobs - all standard.
Couldn't understand though why it only had 1/4inch chain - way too small.
As is said above, a good conversation piece bike.

Aye that's me. Taken in the summer of 1977.
The bike was my first Ducati bought 9/12/76 from Jack Gow in Dundee. One of the last 860 GTS's before it was replaced with the almost identical 900GTS. I wondered who would comment first  :lol2:
I just realised that I now have 30 years Ducati experience (apart from a short break) :)

the answer to this is simple, buy yourself a paso and give me the 851 to look after for you, just in case you want to see it now and again.............problem solved

(Ignore Gordon, I live closer to you.....)

I'm biased by its looks but would say stick with the 851!

Had a good long think about this and feel I need to know what the low down power is like on a Paso  My problem is I think the fact that I came to the 851 after a lay off from bikes and previous to that I had 10 years with a bevel Darmah 900 , which probably explains why I short shift and hardly ever go over 6000rpm
The 851 isn't actually short on low down grunt but it's definitely not as poky as my Darmah or the Superlight low down .

I think I will have to go with the two bike option :D If I can find a paso at a decent price , Watched this one with interest , But Devon was a bit far to go :(

Thanks for everyones input so far
