Current thoughts on insurance

While trying to get my current 1098R insurance reduced to somewhere near the cheapest quote that MCN Compare E-Mailed me I was asked a new question on the phone. 'Have you had any claims in the last year including a Car Windscreen. So it sounds like the feckers may even load you for a windscreen replacement which has always been seen as a separate entity insurance-wise in the past as far as I am aware

Anyhoo, last year was £220, renewal dropped to £200 (and they couldn't do cheaper) cheapest was £170 so I'm changing it. Makes a difference to the R1 going up 90% which I ended up swapping onto the Tesi insurance for just over £100 extra.

Following on from the above (my R1 insurance nearly doubling this year) I was dreading the 1098R insurance coming through: it came into my inbox today @ £200 which is down from £221 last year 🥳
And I just swapped it to Bikesure, still on a separate policy for £175.21 🥳

My Exige insurance was with Halifax as they were the cheapest last year at £140 but this week they want ££215 to renew.

Fecked them off and went with Swinton at £145 🤷‍♂️

Whenever I have gone to Swinton, they always quote a quarter-million pounds at me. Maybe I exaggerate.

How do people say they get competitive quotes from Swinton? It sounds so unlikely to me.

They were the cheapest on the comparison site - I've not had insurance from them since my teens (not so long ago really)

My Bikesure multi bike policy is due to renew tomorrow and having previously commented about how good they have been I now have to downgrade them to a Barrel of Guinness . Maybe even 2 barrels.
I`ve not got the time to type everything they have done badly this week but suffice to say it would be less painful to repeatedly slam a car door shut on my fingers .
I`m now waiting for them to confirm my refund before I no doubt spend hours in phone queues getting quotes elsewhere .

Just to update things I have not renewed with Bikesure as the communication with them over the last 7-10 days has been abysmal and not a great renewal quote. The others I have tried are as follows :-

Bennetts, could not get through to anyone so gave up after 3 attempts @ minimum 5 minutes wait each time.
Swinton good communication but ridiculously expensive.
Carole Nash also good communication, not as dear as Swinton but more than I am happy to pay.
Bemoto reasonable communication, no idea on price as they were unable to quote as I have not passed my CBT. I told them I passed 10 years before CBT was introduced but they advised they could only insure me if I now take and pass a CBT. I have a feeling this may be an error by the bloke on the other end of the phone but there you go .
A Plan best communication by far but they don`t offer multi bike policies unfortunately. I plan to move my car and house policies to them when due based on their excellent service but subject to prices too of course.
Devitt good communication and a very good price. They say they are going to call me early pm today to confirm everything . Providing they do I will go ahead with them.

Devitt called at just after midday and multi bike policy now in place.
The bikes covered are an S2R1000 Monster, 1200 Monster & Moto Guzzi Norge all for £275 with an excess on each of £250. Cover includes damage to equipment and a certain amount for personnel injury at fixed rates for specific injuries.
I appreciate my 3 bikes combined value is not that much more than the cost of a full Termi system on a V4 but I`m happy with the quote and particularly happy that I was speaking to people based in the UK who answered the phone quickly.

I am with Devitt and they have been hopeless, staggering amount of trouble to correct mistakes, now just had to pay 35 pound for a change of address, whilst on the car with Tesco it was free, all insurance companies are just criminals really , like banks, solicitors and of course estate agents who are the winners in the how low can you go stakes…..

That's disappointing to read. All I can say is that I called them 3 times and in each case they answered quickly and I got to speak to a coherent and uk based member of staff. I also was called back as requested. The call was from a Romford number which is where their office is based. May be worth making a note of as it may be better than the numbers given for contact online. 01708 385902.
They did make me aware of the admin charge for any changes to the policy but every company I spoke to had the same policy and Devitt were very much cheaper than any of the others.

The 1098R renews next month. I've been with Bennetts for a couple of years on this bike. I just auto renewed last year as the premium actially dropped by £20 to £157 from the previous year. (y) This year they have almost doubled it, for no discernable reason. They can fook right off. Auto renew cancelled this morning.

The sudden doubling of premium is driven by the underwriters.
It's a feature of the market-share mechanism of the motor insurance cartel, to ensure every beak can get wet within the Gubmint-sponsored racket.

That this cartel is allowed to exist in defiance of anti-trust legislation tells you everything you need to know about the society we live in.

I mentioned A Plan on my posts and that they were particularly good on communication. Had they offered multi bike policies I almost certainly would have used them.
They have over 100 branches so if you are inclined you can actually go in to a branch and talk to someone face to face.

Wow, I remember going to visit the broker when it was time to renew the bike insurance. Seems now like a different life-time, on a different planet.

When I got rid of my old 50cc Honda moped, that was included on my multi-bike policy & replaced it with a new Honda PCX125 my insurer didn't want to know ! They were simply not interested in giving a quote to insure it. I did manage to get a seperate quote for it, but it was almost as expensive as the multi-bike policy !!
I've come to discover 125's are expensive to insure, even for a +60 year old !! :censored:

You would think if an existing policy holder has a long, established history for multiple bikes adding/changing their bikes, no matter what they might be within reason, getting a quote would not be an issue.
That an insurer's would rather risk loosing a policy holder, (that has been with them for a number of years & never claimed) rather than give a competative quote just seems barking mad to me.

I think when the next policy is due for renewal I need to try & get everything on one policy, yes I will insure my bikes with you, but it has to be all of them or none of them attitude. I'll see how that goes down !! :ROFLMAO:

if motor insurance was a free market, then your approach would be certain to succeed.

Alas, motor insurance is not a market. It is a racket. The companies quotas on gaining new business and losing existing "customers" will determine what happens here. Not market forces.

I got The Panzer renewal from Bemoto today.
Last year it was £162, this year £374!
Did a search and there’s plenty of quotes for £150ish.
Phoned Bemoto and they were most unhelpful which is not like them, wouldn’t move on the price so I won’t be renewing with them.
Trouble is I have 666 on a mirrored policy, the chap said I can keep that going till it runs out even if I don’t renew The Panzer.
Carole Nash will cover both bikes for just under £300, I may go with that.
God knows what has gone wrong with Bemoto, they have always been competitive and helpful.

I've had this happen to me with Ducati Insurance/Ramasis a couple of times now. I've had to move my insurance elsewhere both times.
It's to do with market-sharing and price-fixing. UK motor insurance is run by a cartel and I am not kidding

Either your bikes are worth a lot more than mine, you've lost your NCB or you live in a rough area.
The Panzer I put at £14K which is a bit high to be honest and 666 I valued at £10K, full NCB and I live in Stokenchurch which is the most boring place in England.
May be worth a phone call though.

Insured The Panzer today with Carole Nash, £148.
Left 666 with Bemoto as I only insured it in May apparently, if I cancel it I get back £10!
I can put 666 on the CN policy next May.
Also I realised the Evil Git has no MOT, ran out in July! It also needs a bloody belt service and The Panzer needs an MOT plus a service shortly!!
Money is tight so it’ll all have to wait for now.
